It's time for an Employee Spotlight! Kyle Corley works as an Employment Specialist in our Supported Employment program. He took the time to answer a few questions for us:

1. What about this job and company appealed to you?

Leigh hired me back in April of 2013 for the Employment Specialist role for the Durham County Supported Employment program where I was able to work myself up to the Team Lead position. I enjoy being an Employment Specialist because I get to help individuals achieve their goals and objectives by joining the workforce and contributing to the community. CPI appealed to me because it has a family environment, where everyone is supportive and it helps all employees grow.

2. Which of your professional accomplishments are you most proud of?

The professional accomplishment I am most proud of is helping the individuals I serve achieve their vocational goals and objectives to be able to contribute to the community. I enjoy advocating for individuals with disabilities so that employers give them the chance they need.

3. How would you explain to your friends and family what working here is like?

I tell my friends and family that working at CPI is wonderful, and a special place where individuals with disabilities are given the opportunity to learn skills and abilities that help them achieve their short- and long-term goals and objectives.

4. Is there anything people don’t understand about your job that you wish they did?

I wish people understood that someone diagnosed with a disability still has many skills and abilities to contribute to society, as well as to the overall community. You just have to get to know the individual and be willing to give them a chance to show off those skills and abilities.

5. What is a fun fact about you that may surprise people?

Normally, I would tell people I was in the movie Tom and Huck with Johnathan Taylor Thomas as Tom Sawyer. I was in kindergarten and played an extra and had many scenes, including a close up where I***n Joe asks two little boys about a marble. It is on Disney+ as well as YouTube if you want to watch. I am the boy on the right of I***n Joe in the scene. But now I can tell people I am an eleven plus years Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) survivor.

In the tapestry of humanity, diversity is the vibrant thread that weaves us together. We pause to give thanks and acknowledge the richness that diversity brings to our world. Each tradition, language, life journey, and heritage is a unique brushstroke on the canvas of human experience. Through understanding and acceptance, we can celebrate our differences and cultivate a more compassionate and inclusive world.

The holidays are just around the corner, and the folks over at Saint Francis United Methodist Church are already hard at work! Each year, they purchase hundreds of gifts for the families enrolled in our programs—most of whom live beneath the poverty line. Congregation members have already started donating gifts for over 120 families this year. Our clients request items to meet their basic needs, to fill their homes with needed supplies, and to provide toys for their children who wouldn’t get them otherwise. Check out this interview the church did with our CEO, Laurie Stickney, who talked about what the program means to CPI and the people we support. What a joy this program has been for the last 32 years! Thank you, Saint Francis United Methodist Church. The holidays are much brighter for so many because of you!

Saint Francis began it's annual Angel Tree collaboration with Community Partnerships Inc. (CPI) by supporting  just four families. Last year that number grew to 90 families, made up o...
