This is Amare, a Care Extender here at CPI. We asked her what she liked the most about working one-on-one with the people she supports:

"I like that I get to work with individuals and families from all different backgrounds and walks of life. I really value being able to connect with people on a warm, person-centered and family-centered level. I want the individuals and families I work with to know that I, along with our team, am here to support them in any way we possibly can.

I enjoy building those connections because sometimes you may be the first person to truly make someone feel seen, heard, and supported while offering them the help they need. To me, that is what this work is all about—making a difference one person or one family at a time." Well said, Amare, and thank you so much for everything you do!

The teaser-trailer for the movie Being Heumann just dropped. Heumann was a civil rights activist for people with disabilities, and is remembered as the “Mother of the Disability Rights Movement”.

Heumann’s experience with discrimination fueled her passion for ensuring civil rights protections for people with disabilities. In 1977, she organized the successful Section 504 sit-ins in San Francisco.

Every 40 seconds, a life is lost to su***de. That’s almost 800,000 people worldwide each year. On September 10th, we come together to raise awareness, honor those we’ve lost, and remind others that mental health matters.

Always remember: it’s okay to not be okay.

September is Su***de Prevention Month.

So, this is for the person who is exhausted from fighting a battle nobody else can see. The person who says “I’m tired” because explaining how bad things really are feels impossible.

The person who answers “I’m fine” because they don’t want anyone to worry. The person who has convinced themselves that everyone would be better off without the weight of their problems.

Stay through tonight. Stay through the thoughts telling you that nothing will change. Stay even if right now you have no idea what you’re staying for.

You do not need to have your life figured out. You do not need to pretend you’re okay. You do not need to earn your place here by being easy to love or easy to help.

September is Su***de Prevention Month, but people need us to notice, listen and care every month of the year.

Happy Dog Day!

National Dog Day celebrates our beloved canine companions every August 26th. This special day encourages adoption from shelters, promotes responsible pet ownership, and recognizes the unconditional love dogs bring into our lives. Take your furry friend for an extra long walk, spoil them with a new toy, or donate to a local rescue. We'd love to see pics of your pups. Post them in the comments!

CNN Hero Kiko Trujillo is providing life-changing custom medical equipment and devices for people living with disabilities along the US-Mexico border through the nonprofit he co-founded, Arizona Sonora Border Projects for Inclusion (ARSOBO).
