Our Story
You do not have to have Wake County or North Carolina ancestors to be a member. WCGS welcomes all who are interested in genealogy. Our areas of focus include records research, finding aids and skills, historical context, map skills for tracing ancestor migration, genetic genealogy - DNA and cousin matching, the Genealogy Proof Standard, and much more. We also offer the opportunity to network with your fellow family history enthusiasts. WCGS meets at 6:30 p.m. on the 4th Tuesday monthly. Visit the https://wakecogen.org for special scheduling for Nov/Dec and the regular meeting topic list.
The Wake County Genealogical Society (WCGS) was organized in April of 1982 to promote genealogical study and research; serve as a medium for the exchange of genealogical or historical information; encourage the preservation of genealogical or historical records; and provide cultural, educational, and social opportunities involving genealogy. In 1983, WCGS was incorporated as a nonprofit organization under the laws of the State of North Carolina.
