Today is !

Denim Day is honored annually on the last Wednesday of April to commemorate Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
It started when the Italian Supreme Court overturned a r**e conviction because the victim was wearing tight jeans and she must have helped the perpetrator remove them, implying consent. Outraged at the ruling, women of the Italian Parliament soon wore jeans to work in solidarity with the victim.

Denim Day is now celebrated worldwide to debunk myths and prevent victim blaming to those who experienced sexual assault by wearing denim.

Join us this Denim Day by wearing denim pieces to promote awareness and advocate for victims and survivors of sexual violence.

Our RDU Task Force had the privilege of attending the 2nd annual Conference of Community Organizations hosted by UNC Chapel Hill's Asian American Center. We had a wonderful time learning about other local organizations and the work that they do while also sharing information about our agency, mission, services with students, faculty and participating agencies!

This month, we had the honor of attending and being a part of the 2026 Rotary Peace Conference.

The artwork made during our Threads of Healing workshop was presented by Priskila Aruglpragasam, a Kiran volunteer, second year MSW student, Rotary Peace Fellow, and South Asian international student who initiated and facilitated the workshop! We are so grateful to both Priskila and Laurie Selz-Campbell, a Clinical Associate Professor at UNC Chapel Hill of Social Work, who helped oversee the session through her expertise in art-based healing.

We appreciate all of your hard work and effort!

Every year, we have had the honor of tabling at the Nepal Day celebration in Morrisville, connecting to community and sharing about our organization and services. But this year was even more special because it was the 10th annual celebration!

This month, we were invited to do a training with LexisNexis!

On April 10th, we conducted one of the largest domestic violence and cultural awareness trainings for their team. This opportunity would not have been possible without the work of Kiran Task Force member, Archana Rao, and the rest of the LexisNexis Team, especially Snehit Cherian. Thank you all for supporting Kiran, our mission, and our survivors!

If your company, university or business is interested in a domestic violence and cultural awareness training, please reach out to us at [email protected]!

A survivor's safety should not come at the expense of their housing.

A recent DOJ settlement enforces a 2022 provision to the Violence Against Women Act, which strengthened housing rights for survivors and their families. This provision allowed survivors to reach out to law enforcement and emergency personnel without fearing eviction and consequences from landlords.

A step in the right direction for victims and survivors of domestic violence....learn more about the settlement here:

The Justice Department announced today the settlement of United States v. David Montanus and Lisa Montanus, the first lawsuit filed by the Civil Rights Division to enforce the Housing Rights Subpart of the Violence Against Women Act Reauthorization Act of 2022 (VAWA), 34 U.S.C. ยง 12495.

This weekend, we held our LARGEST RDU Heroes for Hope Walkathon yet! We are so grateful to every volunteer who showed up bright and early to help out, to all the attendees who walked alongside us in support of our cause, and to every sponsor, business, town official, and community member who showed up!
