Rona Karacaova is the Managing Attorney of Legal Aid of North Carolina’s Immigrant Pathways for Victims (IMMPAV) Project. Before joining Legal Aid of NC in 2002, Rona worked with Connecticut Legal Services for three years and Legal Services of Southern Piedmont for one year.

Rona obtained her B.A. in International Relations from Tufts University in 1993 and her J.D. from UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law in 1998. Prior to attending law school, Rona worked with UNHCR in Ankara, Turkey for a year and was the Assistant Director of a Bosnian refugee camp on the Bulgarian border of Turkey.

Rona is proficient in Turkish and conversational in Spanish and French. In her spare time, Rona enjoys spending time with her husband and two children (ages 13 and 18) and likes to read, play tennis, and travel.

We were honored to be invited by the Town of Cary, NC to recognize October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

Thank you to the Cary Mayor, Cary Council Members and Cary Police Department who organize this meaningful event every year to honor survivors and victims of domestic violence. We are especially grateful to Council member and Cary Police Chief Terry Sult for their presence and unwavering support towards survivors. Thank you to our volunteers and community members who attended.

Community support like this helps us continue to raise awareness and empower survivors 💜

What an eye-opening article and statistic for this - thank you Maitri Bay Area for raising awareness.

Within a little over two weeks, three women died under circumstances that harshly exposed a familiar failure: our inability to protect women from violence within marriage.

Our 2026 Annual Gala was incredible! Thank you to all who attended and supported this beautiful night at Whistling Woods Farm with food catered by Lime and Lemon.

Thank you to the talented team of musicians: Eric Benjamin, Deepak Khopka, Pratik Shah, Amit Chandekar, and Rutu Chandekar who provided a lovely soundtrack to the evening.

This event would not have been possible if it were not for our dedicated team of volunteers, especially our hardworking Gala Committee!

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Kiran is honored to be joining Town of Cary for a special event to raise awareness and show support for survivors and victims of DV.

Join us at 6:45 PM on October 5th at Downtown Cary Park Fountain as the fountain will be lit in purple, symbolizing our commitment to ending domestic violence. A proclamation will also be made during the event to highlight the significance of the month and our ongoing efforts.

We hope to see you and your loved ones wearing purple (or Kiran shirt/scarves/dupattas/etc.)! Together, we can raise awareness and stand with those affected by domestic violence.

The bill also seeks to abolish alienation of affection and criminal conversation lawsuits. Supporters cite the financial and emotional challenges of prolonged separation, particularly for those experiencing domestic violence, while critics raise concerns about court capacity and opportunities for reconciliation.
