First day on the job! More on the clinic coming up, but we went down to do a couple of house visits also. It’s always amazing to be welcomed so warmly into people’s homes. A sip of “brown porridge” (watery millet) is a small price to pay 😅

This International Youth Day 2026, we celebrate young people as creators, entrepreneurs, innovators, leaders, and problem-solvers.

Across Kampala’s communities, young people have the talent and determination to succeed. What they need are pathways to opportunity, through vocational and practical skills, entrepreneurship, digital opportunities, and access to markets.

At TOUCH THE SLUM UGANDA , we are committed to walking alongside young people as they learn, build, create, and lead, turning skills into livelihoods and potential into community transformation.

A new intake is underway, and we couldn’t be more encouraged.

Every day, we meet young women and youth who have been told they would never amount to much. Yet, from the moment they join our program, they begin to show resilience, determination, and hope for a better future.

In Namuwongo slum, we provide alternative education and practical skills training for at-risk teen girls, teen mothers, and unemployed youth, helping them build sustainable livelihoods and rewrite their stories.

When opportunity meets determination, transformation begins.

Every young mother deserves the opportunity to earn a living and build a brighter future for her family. Through vocational skills and mentorship, we’re helping young women from underserved communities become self-reliant and break the cycle of poverty.

At TOUCH THE SLUM UGANDA , we understand that teen mothers are not the problem, the systems around them are.

Many of these young women have been denied access to education, employment opportunities, healthcare, and the support they need to rebuild their lives. Yet every day, they fight to provide for their children with incredible courage.

That is why our programs are designed to create opportunities, not handouts. We equip teen mothers with practical skills, mentorship, and safe spaces where they can learn, earn a decent living, and build a better future for themselves and their families.

A second chance can change a child’s future.

Meet Jeje.

When his mother lost her job, Jeje could no longer attend kindergarten. Like many families in Namuwongo, they struggled to afford even the basics. Without school, he became vulnerable to negative influences and was at risk of joining antisocial groups of boys in the community.

At Touch The Slum, we welcomed Jeje into our free literacy program. Today, he is learning, smiling, and growing with confidence. His story reminds us that when a child is given an opportunity, their future can be transformed.

Together, we can ensure more children like Jeje have access to education, hope, and a safe place to learn.
