Retail Store Assistant Manager (Full-Time)

Real Life Works, Inc., a nonprofit social enterprise, is seeking a full-time Retail Store Assistant Manager who is equally passionate about purposeful employment and strong store performance.
At Real-Life Works, our mission is to provide meaningful jobs, skill-building opportunities, and a sense of belonging to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The Assistant Manager plays a key role in this mission: supporting retail operations while directly mentoring, training, and empowering employees with IDD in their day‑to‑day work.
This position reports to the Executive Director and blends hands‑on management, coaching, and customer service with purpose-driven leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide daily operational leadership, including opening and closing the store.
- Mentor, support, and train employees with IDD to strengthen job skills, communication, and confidence.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and encouraging work environment where every team member can succeed.
- Assist the Executive Director with achieving sales goals and operational benchmarks.
- Manage merchandising, inventory flow, and visual displays to ensure an inviting customer experience.
- Deliver excellent customer service and resolve issues with professionalism and empathy.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe store environment for staff and customers.
- Optional: contribute to social media content highlighting our mission, community impact, and store activity.
Qualifications
Required
- Demonstrated experience working with individuals with autism or other intellectual/developmental disabilities in employment, caregiving, instructional, or volunteer settings.
- Previous retail experience, with at least one year in a supervisory or lead role.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A collaborative, patient, and mission‑driven mindset.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and some holidays.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
Preferred
- Experience supporting vocational skill development.
- Visual merchandising or thrift/secondhand retail experience.
Compensation
$17.50/hour.
Approximately 40 hours/week.
