Technology-Facilitated Abuse is when a perpetrator uses technology for the purpose of emotional, physical, and psychological harm, harassment, and/or control. This issue grows as new technology evolves.

While new technology can provide vital resources to survivors and those seeking help, it is also often weaponized by victimizers.

May is Mental health Awareness Month! ๐Ÿง

A better understanding of how mental health effects cases of domestic and sexual violence is critical to targeting unhealthy behavior within relationships. The effect of mental health in such cases is multi-faceted; mental instability as a contribution to an abusers actions or reactions, an abuser using mind games as a manipulation tactic, as well as the mental health consequences a survivor develops as a result of the abuse.

Swipe through to learn how mental health effects cases of domestic and sexual violence statistically.

Today's supporting survivors tip is: Ask, Be Patient, and Respect.

Every survivor's story and circumstances are different, so when offering your help, always ask how they wish to receive it.

Survivors may or may not have a clear idea of what support looks like for them. It is important to be patient with them through this, stay with them, and keep checking in on them.

Allow survivors to choose if and what they share, and always respect their privacy.

If you need more advice on how to support a survivor or are seeking help, reach out to InterAct's 24/7 crisis line at 919-828-7740

NEWS UPDATE: "The U.S. Department of Justice awarded North Carolina more than $2 million in federal funding to process r**e kits and prevent future backlogs, Rep. Deborah Ross announced on Monday." (WCNC)

What does this mean for survivors?
This is a big step toward expediting the process of survivors receiving justice for the crimes committed against them.

This past Saturday, April 18th, InterAct was bustling with activity, during the annual Hayes-Barton neighborhood food drive. Thanks to our amazing volunteers from the Wake County Democratic Party and White Memorial Presbyterian Church, along with the team from Hayes-Barton. The Wake Dems facilitated, recorded, and sorted all of the donations brought in on Saturday with speed and efficiency. Now, the volunteers from White Memorial are stocking and organizing the shelves in our pantry.

THANK YOU to those involved with this incredible community project; drives like this contribute greatly to helping rebuild the lives of survivors.

April 20th is Volunteer Appreciation Day. Today, we want to recognize our amazing volunteers who dedicate their time to supporting InterAct.
Volunteers are crucial for our operations; they perform duties in the pantry, crisis line, the solace center, guest services, court navigation, and more. We cannot extend our thanks enough to those who choose to offer their time and passion to help end the cycle of domestic and sexual violence.

Whether you have volunteered at InterAct for one day, one event, or many years, we sincerely thank you.

Because the scope of sexual violence is wide, it affects every community. It can happen to anyone, so everyone must be informed about the realities, struggles, and resources available to survivors.

On Wednesday, April 8th, some InterAct representatives had the honor of attending NCSU's 'Take Back the Night' event. In honor of SAAM, NCSU hosted an event featuring organizations both on and off campus that provide services and resources related to sexual assault. The night started with tabling and progressed into a march, a vigil, a survivor circle, and closed with a communal dinner.

Thank you to NCSU for hosting this incredible event and spreading awareness about sexual assault and how we can do our best to prevent and heal from it.
