These two had a dream. Overcoming obstacles, Marc ran a Marathon on South Bass Island today. And Laura, who is recovering from an injury, had not run at all for 6 weeks. She was supposed to run the first and last mile with Marc. Instead, she ran the first 14 miles (that’s more than a half marathon), another mile in the middle and the last 4 miles, for a total of 19 miles!!! That was a total surprise even to her. Let’s hear it for Marc and Laura for running today Because They Said They Would! You can still donate here: https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/city-harvest-2020-nyc-marathon/marcwright3

Last year, Ray and Laura Fogg traveled to New York City to root on their friends Kelli and Marc run in the NYC Marathon. Over 50,000 runners competed while raising money for their favorite charity. Laura was so overwhelmed by the spirit of the event she immediately weld up with tears when arriving at the race. By the end of the day she knew she must run it the following year. Marc was so touched by Laura’s emotional response, he vowed to return and run it with her. Before she knew it, she was accepted by a team to run the race.

In March, Laura started training for the Marathon. She and Marc formed a Put-in-Bay running club to help keep them focused. Then, COVID caused the 2020 NYC marathon to be canceled. But, these two were determined to run the marathon anyway to keep their commitment.

Unfortunately, after many months of hard work, about six weeks ago, Laura suffered an injury while training that prevents her from running long distances. But, Marc was not to be denied and declared he would run the marathon alone to raise money for City Harvest.

So, Marc will run 26.2 miles tomorrow (Saturday, Oct 31) on South Bass Island starting at 9pm. Laura will join him for the last short leg of the race to support Marc as he crosses the finish line. It will be heartwarming to see these two great friends come across that line together!

Hopefully, if you are on the island you can cheer Marc along the route. The maps below show approximate times that he will pass certain points on the island. The red boxes depict locations and times of cheering stations. The times are estimates. He could arrive at each location up to 20 minutes before after the estimated time. Please maintain social distancing.

Here are the updated maps showing the route (in yellow) and the ESTIMATED times for each mile. Also, the red boxes depict our planned cheering stations along with ESTIMATED times. We hope you will join us at those cheering stations throughout the day. Please feel free to bring your own refreshments and signs.

The red line on the Loop 3 map depicts the final 1.2 miles. This will be the only time Marc runs through downtown Put-in-Bay on Delaware and Catawba Avenues. Feel free to stage anywhere along that route as well to cheer him to the finish line.

It’s very difficult to estimate the times, even more so for later in the race. So you should plan that Marc may pass each point anywhere from 20 minutes before or after the estimated time (times may vary even more than that). Watch this page on race day. We will attempt to post updates if possible.

Of course, please maintain proper social distancing at the cheering stations.

NOTE: We will update these maps tomorrow, so don’t save these yet. The below images show the marathon route Marc will run Saturday for those living along the route to estimate when he will pass your home. The times are APPROXIMATE times. It’s obviously very hard to predict exact timing for a 26.2 mile run. You should plan on actual times being anywhere from 20 minutes earlier to 20 minutes later for each point. We will try to post time updates on this page during the day of the race. Watch for a post on this page tomorrow for updated maps with info about specific cheer party times and locations along the route. LIKE THIS PAGE! This amazing man, Marc Wright, committed to running the 2020 NYC Marathon to benefit City Harvest. The race has been cancelled due COVID-19. So, you know what Marc’s gonna do? He will run the marathon anyway on South Bass Island on Saturday, Oct 31 starting at 9am! Why? “Because I Said I Would.”

Running 26.2 miles is difficult to say the least. Doing it alone is incredibly demanding. We would like the island community to come out and support Marc during his run. We will post his route on this page. If he runs past your home please cheer him on! We will also host a number of rooting parties to cheer him on and will post those locations and times soon.

You can support Marc and his charity by going here: https://charity.gofundme.com/o/en/campaign/city-harvest-2020-nyc-marathon/marcwright3
