WSU Raptor Club

WSU Raptor Club The WSU Raptor Club is a volunteer organization whose goal is to educate the public about the importance and conservation of birds of prey.

Home to 8 non-releasable birds of prey, the WSU Raptor Club is a volunteer, student-run organization on the WSU Pullman campus dedicated to the conservation of raptors and educating the public about these magnificent birds. The WSU Raptor Club is a student-run non-profit organization that has been closely affiliated with the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine (WSU-CVM) sinc

e 1981, first founded by Dr. Eric Stauber. The WSU Raptor Club, under WSU-CVM’s federal permits, currently cares for 8 raptors (ranging from a tiny Pygmy Owl to a Golden Eagle) that have all sustained injuries which have rendered them non-releasable. Our raptors attend approximately 60-80 educational presentations a year! The WSU Raptor Club not only provides these magnificent birds with a second chance at life, but allows for a once in a lifetime opportunity for people to have a close look at a variety of raptor species and learn about their biology and natural history. The Raptor Club is open to anyone 18 years or older who is interested in learning about birds of prey and the conservation of these species. We train club volunteers to feed the club’s resident raptors, maintain the facilities, and to handle raptors for educational presentations. Raptors and club volunteers visit service organizations, fairs, summer camps, and schools to educate children and adults about raptor conservation and the lives of these birds. Email us if you are interested in joining! We offer educational presentations for local classrooms, clubs, organizations, and events. These programs include live demonstrations using our non-releasable educational raptors. Our hope is to raise awareness about the birds and their special ecological requirements. Please request your presentation at least two weeks before the event date. If you would like to schedule a presentation, please visit our website or reach out to our presentations email: [email protected]

The WSU Raptor Club’s 2026 Silent Auction is happening soon! 🦅🪶

Our silent auction every year is one of the very best ways to support our organization. As a non-profit, our club is entirely funded on donations, which means that all proceeds from events like our auction go directly towards the care of our birds!

Join us on Saturday, April 18th, on the WSU Pullman campus in the Animal Disease and Biotechnology Facility in room 1002 between 10am and 5pm to bid on a variety of items including gift cards, gift baskets, and more.

Throughout the day we will be featuring some of our ambassadors on glove just outside of the auction room and the building, so this is also a great opportunity to see who your donations support!

If you would like to donate to contribute to our auction inventory, there’s still time to! Fill out the form from the link on the second image, or email us at [email protected] to coordinate a drop off with our officers!

We’re excited for you to see the selection of items available for bidding this year, and we hope to see everyone who wishes to support us!

We’ll see you there! 🦉

Join us for our next fundraiser event at Pups and Cups Cafe! 🎨🦅

Do you consider yourself an artist? Prove it! Come paint portraits of our ambassadors while we have them out on glove, and enjoy Raptor Club-themed mocktails and cocktails!

Scan the QR code to RSVP if you'd like to participate! It allows us to properly prepare for all participants.

The entry fee to participate in painting is $10 to cover supplies, and any drinks are separate purchases at your leisure during the event.

This is a great way to support our birds! Any funds we receive goes directly towards the care of our ambassadors.

We hope to see everyone there!

Hi everyone! If you aren't already familiar with us, the WSU Raptor Club is a volunteer-based, non-profit organization that houses and cares for 8 non-releasable birds of prey, ranging from a Golden Eagle to a Northern Pygmy Owl. Our mission as an organization is to care for and take these educational ambassadors on presentations to educate the public about raptors while promoting conservation efforts.

Every spring, we hold a silent auction, where we auction off donations from small businesses and community members to raise money for our club. All of the proceeds from this event go towards paying for the birds' food, medical bills, and facilities upkeep.

This year, we are seeking donations from the public to be auctioned off at our silent auction. Here are some examples of items we have auctioned off in the past:
- Wall art, framed photos, or art in general
- Candles, soaps, and other gift-basket fillers
- Gift cards from local businesses
- Home goods and decor
- Books
- Clothing accessories, such as pins or jewelry

If you or a friend have items that you are interested in donating, please fill out this form, and one of our officers will be in contact with you shortly. We are trying to arrange drop-offs at the Stauber Raptor Facility, but please contact us in advance to schedule a time, as our facility is not open to the public.

Here is the link to the Google Form for scheduling drop-offs: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSe3f2XnXgB1626I9td41M79u5BQak0omQpmmzzq6BjBraQIJQ/viewform?usp=dialog

Here are our guidelines for donations:
- Must be able to drop off item at the Stauber Raptor Facility on the WSU Pullman campus (during a coordinated time only)
- No clothing
- Must be clean/decent condition or gently used
- No furniture

Please fill this form out if you are interested in donating an item(s) to Raptor Club for our annual silent auction. We are not accepting clothes or furniture at this time.

If you find an injured raptor...

We all want to help animals when we believe they are orphaned or injured, but you should always ensure an animal is indeed in need of help before intervening.

Young fledgling raptors and other birds are often mistaken for being injured when they are found on the ground. Most often, however, the bird is taking its first journey away from its nest and learning to fly. These birds often return to their nest or are taken care of on the ground by their parents.

Before attempting to intervene with a raptor you believe is injured, ensure something is visibly wrong – such as the bird is having trouble walking or cannot fly – before capturing it, as it may be completely healthy. If possible, call a wildlife rehabilitator near you or call the WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital at 509-335-0711 prior to intervening.

Do not attempt to capture an injured raptor unless you feel comfortable, and use caution, as you can inadvertently cause more injury to the bird or hurt yourself. Contact the WSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital at 509-335-0711 if you have any questions or concerns.
