Summer of Sass joins the Provincetown Community as we mourn the loss of Rod Vaughn .
In short, there would be no Summer of Sass, INC without Rod.
When the program was just an idea in my head I asked folks around town if they would be willing to house a young adult, and Rod was the first person to say yes. Growing up in Missouri, Rod knew how difficult being LGBTQ could be in the be in that part of the country.
Rod said yes and showed up for a crazy idea bc he knew that young adults out there needed to feel the kind of community that Provincetown can provide. He walked the walk.
For me, Rod was a constant and persistent reminder to not take anything too seriously and just focus on the fact that we were doing our best to help people and that's all we could do .
He was immensely talented in so many different ways but damn he excelled at being a great human being .
Teddy was our first Sasser and Rod became a lifelong mentor and friend to him, as they remained in contact until the very end .
We are sending so much love to Scott Coffey, Teddy and all of Rod's close friends.
He will be terribly missed .
Thank you Rod, rest well.
