⚡ SEPTEMBER FEATURED ARTIST: HARDCORE HARP ⚡

Meet Hardcore Harp, an LA-based harpist bringing the harp somewhere you might not expect: heavy metal. 🤘🎸

Combining rigorous classical training with a lifelong love of heavy music, Hardcore Harp has built a global audience through her arrangements and transcriptions, including death metal guitar solos for harp. Along the way, she’s challenging assumptions about what the harp can sound like, what it can look like, and where it belongs.

Armed with pedal harp, electric harp, and an ever-growing collection of FX pedals, she’s carving out a musical world entirely her own.

We’re so excited to feature Hardcore Harp throughout September and share more of her work with you. 🖤

Hello friends, Elias Shane here! Excited to share that I’ll be hosting a free/donation-based harp songwriting workshop for Chord47 called “Thinking in Shapes”. It’ll take place on Zoom on September 27th. As I prepare, I want to know what you would most want out of a workshop like this. I’m open to talking about different songwriting techniques, the specific abilities of the instrument, using improvisation, melody/lyric writing, using DAWs…

Are there any challenges you’ve faced with songwriting on the harp? Anything holding you back from trying it? Any specific abilities of the instrument you’ve wanted to discuss? Please comment below!! I’m very excited to discuss this all with some other harpists & allies.

A little recalibration. 💜

Over the past several months, Chord47 has grown in ways we’re incredibly grateful for. We’ve highlighted seven incredible artists, watched this community grow, and learned a lot about what Chord47 can be.

This month, instead of our usual Featured Artist, we’re taking some time to ground ourselves and think intentionally about what comes next.

So here’s a clearer picture of what we believe, what we’re building toward, and how you can be part of it.

The harp is changing. We’re excited to change with it. 💜

The harp can sound SO many different ways and this is such a great example of how using plugins for processing in a software like ProTools can get you some really cool results.

🎶 JULY FEATURED ARTIST: Space Cowboy Newt 🎶

This month, Chord47 is excited to spotlight the multi-talented !

Space Cowboy Newt, aka Emma Newton, is a singer-songwriter, music producer, and unconventional harpist! After beginning their musical journey as a Classical pianist, Emma fell in love with the harp as a songwriting companion and, later, its use as a music production tool. Emma works as a recording engineer, producer, and mixer out of in Rhode Island and frequently incorporates creative harp effects in their productions. Whether it’s turning a plucked melody into an ambient, dreamy texture or crafting 8-bit distorted video game-esque bleeps from harmonics, Emma loves making a harp sound unrecognizable. After recording workdays, Space Cowboy Newt performs their quirky synthy harp pop music at venues across New England.

Our June featured artist, , has been hard at work in rehearsals for four days straight. Schlepping three harps many miles is no joke, and neither is this 53-page score. Looking forward to hearing this piece come to life 🎶

🎶 JUNE FEATURED ARTIST: PARKER RAMSAY 🎶

For June, Chord47 is excited to feature harpist, writer, researcher, and innovator Parker Ramsay.

Parker has built a career that defies easy categorization, expanding the harp’s role through performance, scholarship, historical performance practice, and new technology. A passionate advocate for contemporary music, he has premiered works by leading composers, collaborated with institutions such as IRCAM, and helped bring groundbreaking new repertoire to life—including works incorporating live electronics, custom interfaces, and entirely new instruments.

His acclaimed recording of Bach’s Goldberg Variations earned praise from Gramophone, BBC Music Magazine, WQXR, and The Wall Street Journal, while his performances have taken him to venues including Alice Tully Hall, The 92nd Street Y, King’s College Cambridge, the Phillips Collection, and the Spoleto Festival.

Equally at home on modern and historical harps, Parker co-directs the period-instrument ensemble A Golden Wire and regularly writes on music and culture for publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Early Music America.

Throughout June, we’ll explore Parker’s artistic journey, creative process, and his work at the forefront of what the harp can be.
