Team 111: WildStang High School District 214's WildStang Robotics Program, competing in the FIRST Robotics series

WildStang Robotics Support Association (WRSA) is the 501(c)(3) not for profit support group for WildStang and Plus One, District 214’s two FIRST robotics teams. Governed by elected board members, WRSA provides financial and organizational support to the teams above what the school district can provide. WRSA has supported the teams recently by funding:
- travel expenses for students, mentors and ch

aperones traveling with the team to the Midwest Regional in Chicago and the Seven Rivers Regional in La Crosse, Wisconsin
- laptops and iPads for the robot drive and strategy teams. WildStang Robotics has demonstrated excellence consistently over their 28 year history (visit: https://www.thebluealliance.com/team/111/history). The program recently grew from one team to two to give more students hands-on experience with designing, building, and operating robots. The students can only succeed with support from parents and the community. WRSA’s role is to facilitate support for the Students, Teachers, Coaches, and Mentors.

It is with immense sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dottie Skierkiewicz, a 30+ year veteran of FIRST and WildStang Robotics.

Named the 2023 Illinois Volunteer of the Year for her endless compassion, dedication, and service to FIRST, Dottie represents the very best of this community.

An icon and a staple of the entire Midwestern FIRST world - especially the Midwest Regional - Dottie’s enthusiasm, smile, not-so-secret stash of candy, and warmth will be sincerely missed by all those who have had the true joy of her presence.

Dottie and her husband Al have volunteered at countless events around the globe, showcasing their special and enduring bond built around love for family, philanthropy, and a shared boundless curiosity. Few people have given their time and talents more freely than Dottie and Al.

The Skierkiewicz Family WildStang Scholarship has meaningfully kickstarted the educational futures of the very same students they’ve mentored and led. Their generosity extends far beyond measure and Dottie’s considerable legacy will surely include changing the trajectory of thousands of student lives through her lifelong dedication to others.

It is hard to overstate how much Dottie meant to our Program nor overstate her love of FIRST and getting to share so many wonderful moments with all of you.

We’d please ask at this time you respect the privacy of the entire Skierkiewicz family as they navigate this tremendous loss, but do know that your love and support is deeply appreciated.

For those local to Illinois, visitation will be tomorrow, May 8th, from 4-8 pm at Glueckert Funeral Home, 1520 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, 60004.

In lieu of flowers, the Skierkiewicz family would love for you to consider making a donation to your local FIRST team in Dottie’s memory.

The WildStang Robotics Program is excited to host the third annual LEGO Robotics Camp!

This camp is for rising 4th-8th grade students who want to learn the basics of LEGO robotics or continue their robotics journey. The focus of the camp will be to build students’ programming/coding skills (typically the most difficult part of LEGO Robotics). When students aren’t learning new material, they will work in teams to practice their skills and complete missions from previous FIRST LEGO League (FLL) seasons. Throughout the week they will complete as many missions as they can. On the last day of the camp, students will participate in a mini-tournament to demonstrate their learned skills. We encourage parents, tamily, and other supporters to attend the exciting event.

The camp will be led by WildStang Robotics students, alumni and teachers. Students will be placed into small groups of students, each group will have a WildStang group leader to assist the group throughout the week.
There will be both introductory and advanced groups in the camp. During registration you will be asked questions about your camper’s experience, and your answers will be used to place your student in the correct level.

Students in the introductory groups will learn how to create code, move motors, drive and turn the robot, use the light and gyro sensors, code more complex programs with control statements, and more. Students in the advanced groups will go over line following, gyro turn, MyBlocks, Gyro Straight, Proportional Control, and more.

All students will learn mission strategy, reliability, and robot strategy from experienced FLL alumni.
