Happy Feb 1st, everyone! 👋

Today is perfect for honoring why O.N.E. was created and what we stand for. While we celebrate the start of Black History Month, today is also National Freedom Day. 🕊️

In honor of National Freedom Day, we spotlight the 13th Amendment. However, the struggle for civil rights is ‘ongoing.’ In our reflection, we must embrace an expanded scope—because as our world changes, the movement has broadened to include the rights of women, LGBTQ+ individuals, immigrants, and people with disabilities.

Simply put, all people deserve to enjoy the freedoms some take for granted.

Today, let’s also remember the hidden fights for equality: the daily, often unseen struggles against systemic and unconscious biases that prevent marginalized groups from having the same opportunities, safety, and respect as others. These battles are everywhere, and they matter.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service their organizations came together to create blankets for the children and families we serve turning compassion into tangible care.

Trauma research shows that items like blankets provide more than warmth. They offer comfort safety and a sense of calm for children who have experienced loss disruption and uncertainty.

These blankets will help children navigating foster and kinship care feel grounded secure and reminded that they are seen valued and loved during this winter season.

We are deeply thankful for leaders and organizations who do not just speak hope but place it directly into the hands of children.

Today was special. So thankful for the legacy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr left us and the folks in our little community that share his dream. I am perpetually inspired by how God blesses the efforts of our little organization. Twenty five blankets were completed today. They will bless kids through the Isaiah 1:17 program. But that was just the beginning; we learned a little bit about the rich history of Lyles Station. We also learned that Words Matter; some words hurt while others heal. We are so thankful for this collaboration with Hillside United Methodist Church. We’re already looking forward to planning for next year! A heartfelt ‘thank you’ to everyone who participated!

What is an open mic night? It seems to me it’s pure magic. We envisioned an evening of community building and that’s exactly what we got! Poetry, music, comedy, art - if you weren’t in the room where it happened this evening, you missed an incredible event. I am so proud of everyone that showed up and shared their stories. These events connect us in ways social media can’t. I hope everyone that came left with their hearts as full and warm as mine. Keep your eyes peeled for additional workshops as we hope to make this an annual event!
