We’ve been notified by Vilas County Conservation Specialist Cathy Higley that Spiny Water Flea (an aquatic invasive species) has been found in Spider Lake, part of the Manitowish chain.

While less destructive than Eurasian Water Milfoil, Spiny Water Flea is far easier to spread—clinging unnoticed to fishing lines or surviving in a spoonful of water. With the Musky season in full swing and many of us fishing multiple lakes, the risk of transfer to Oxbow is high.

What you can do:

Drain & Dry: Empty bilges, live wells, bait wells, and ballast tanks before moving between lakes.

Bait: Only use bait from licensed WI dealers. Never transfer baitfish or water between lakes.

Inspect: Check trailers, boats, and gear for plants or debris before launching.

At the Landing: Politely remind visitors of these precautions. If someone is hostile, contact Town Constable Mitch Dumask at 715-621-0098.

I’ll be at the landing in October promoting Clean Boats, Clean Waters. If you’d like to help, please reach out—I’d be glad to show you how to get involved.

Together, we can protect Oxbow Lake.

Welcome to the Oxbow Lake Association page! The purpose of our Association is to:

• Preserve and protect Oxbow Lake and its surroundings
• Defend water quality, fishery, boating safety and aesthetic values of Oxbow Lake as a public recreational facility for today and future generations
• Maintain the natural shoreline of Oxbow Lake
• Inform individuals, organizations and government bodies on issues affecting and pertaining to Oxbow Lake.

Our goal is to achieve this purpose by creating a sense of community for those on the lake, so that we all feel that we are part of what makes our lake so special. This page was created to provide a forum for members, residents and guests to share their love of this very special body of water with others in our community, in words and pictures. And along with our website, www.oxbowlakepi.com, we will use this page to communicate information important to the lake and our membership. So, please feel free to jump in and share! Stories, pictures, opinions, ideas…all are welcome!

We’ll see you at the lake!!!
