Simon has been challenging to consistently get loaded in the trailer. On Tuesday, we loaded and went to the neighbors (trainer). I figured if he didn’t get back in the trailer I could walk him home. Short ride under saddle, keeping expectations consistent. He loaded back up and we went home. He was cool as a cucumber the entire time. So proud of him! ❤️ Horsemanship Unlocked

How Simon has been starting his days. More time has been spent on getting a horse into a trailer than should be expected. Finally getting there! I still hold my breath each time.

Simon can be a bit reactive to some pressure but he’s getting over it. Maturity and good training are helping a lot.

Short ride today but very worth it! ❤️ It’s the first time for Uno and Simon to go on a ride together. Simon wanted to lead and Uno kept the corn in sight.

It’s important to keep ponies moving. Even if you’re too big to ride them. They still need to work if you want to keep them healthy. I’ve tried every diet and I was super unhappy and grumpy counting out 1500 calories a day. It was when I decided I needed to move more and almost eat what I wanted that I not only lost weight but became stronger too. Same applies to ponies. An appropriate amount of forage is 1.5% to 2% of total weight. Birdie is about 150 pounds. That means a little over 2 pounds of hay a day! Since we tend to measure by flakes on a small square bale, that could mean ONE flake a day! 😮 See why it’s easier to keep them moving and burning than to keep them sedentary on a flake a day? Overfeeding is way easier than you think.
