The Peony Project KC A Mother’s Day project for women carrying quiet grief—
infertility, pregnancy, and infant/child loss
↓ Nominate someone or lend a hand The invisibility.

I started The Peony Project because I remember what it felt like to grieve quietly on Mother’s Day. Years ago, after a pregnancy loss, I found that the hardest part wasn’t just the pain—it was the silence. Then one spring, my mother-in-law brought over fresh peonies from her garden. I made a few bouquets and offered to deliver them to other women who might be hurting, too. Just a doorstep drop-off

. Just a little beauty, a little reminder: you are not alone. That first year, I made 12 bouquets. Last year, we delivered 20. This year, we’re hoping to reach even more. The Peony Project is a simple gesture of care. Each May, we hand-deliver peony bouquets to Kansas City women facing infertility, pregnancy loss, or infant/child loss. The flowers are gathered from local gardens. The vases are donated. The words are handwritten. And every part of it says: You are seen. You are loved. You matter. If you'd like to help—however you can—we would be honored to have you.

We are so grateful for the outpouring of support we’ve received this year, and are honored to be able to acknowledge the shared experience so many women in our community have walked or are walking.

In order to finalize preparations for this weekend, we have closed our nomination form for this year.

There is still opportunity to volunteer this weekend and we are still in need of vases, and florals.

If you are a Florist or Floral Shop and would be willing to donate florals or offer at wholesale pricing, please DM us.

We have the incredible honor of acknowledging over 70 women this year, and that wouldn’t be possible without this amazing community.

Thank you, truly.

Mother's Day is not a celebration for all. For many in our community, it's a day of wanting, longing and desiring for something that's missing. 🌸

In steps The Peony Project and KCinfertility.

Shelby, the founder of The Peony Project, and the board members of KCinfertility have all walked the difficult road of infertility. We all know the grief that comes with the passing of certain holidays, especially Mother's Day.

If there's a woman in your life that's navigating infertility and feeling heavy about the upcoming holiday...we have ways for you to show your support.

🌸 Send her a beautiful vase of peony flowers from The Peony Project.
🌸 Make a donation on her honor to KCinfertility.
🌸 Ways support the peony project in other ways, you can donate vases too.

These are simple, quite and sweet ways you can support someone you love.

We’re honored to support The Peony Project KC 🤍

Founded by Shelby, who understands the quiet grief that can come with Mother’s Day after pregnancy loss, this initiative began with a simple, meaningful act of sharing peonies from her garden as a reminder that no one is alone. What started as 12 bouquets has grown into something deeply impactful for our Kansas City community.

Each May, The Peony Project delivers locally grown peony bouquets, paired with donated vases and handwritten notes, to women experiencing infertility, pregnancy loss, or the loss of a child.

This year, we’re especially grateful to participate and to give back by donating in support of a mission that touches so many in a community so close to our hearts. 🦋

Mother's Day can hold many things at once.

For some, joy. For others, grief, longing, or a quiet ache the world doesn't always see.

The Peony Project exists because no one should grieve invisibly on a day that's supposed to feel like love.

If this day is heavy for you, please know: you are seen, you are loved, you matter.

Someone just came to mind, didn't she?

A wife. A sister. A friend. A coworker. A neighbor. The woman who carries her grief quietly because the world doesn't always know how to hold it.

Nominate her at the link in our bio. Or yourself. Both are welcome here.

Last Mother's Day, we had the heartfelt privilege of delivering bouquets to 20 incredible women in our community, women who have faced or are facing the challenges of infertility and pregnancy/infant loss. Each flower, a small token of immense admiration and support, represents our collective embrace. Thank you to every individual who donated their time, resources, and talents to make this possible. Your generosity helped bring light into the lives of those who are walking this path. To the courageous women who received these bouquets- and to all who share this journey- you are seen, you are honored, not just today, but every day.
