In late February, a few of our Native Fish Coalition Michigan Chapter Board Members spent some time exploring Sycamore Creek near Lansing to see if it would be a suitable candidate for a stream assessment effort. This article does a good job of looking into the perils of fish stocking programs and the impact of nonnative species being a big part of these efforts. With many of the funds derived from license fees paid by those targeting these species being used for conservation efforts, it is a complex issue.

Will be interesting to see if some of the alternatives for funding help to better support conservation efforts.

Introduced species can wreak havoc on native ecosystems. Many states are flooding their waterways with them.
