Have you ever heard of wild-fostering? πŸ£πŸ’œ

🐣 Here at Ohio Wildlife Center, we work to reduce the number of orphaned animals in care by placing young wildlife into active nests with wild parents whenever possible. This technique, known as wild-fostering, is especially successful for certain bird species.

🐣 This young American Kestrel was admitted to our Wildlife Hospital but could not be returned to its original nest. With the help of our volunteer and kestrel box monitor, Tim, we located an active nest with nestlings of a similar age and size, making it the perfect opportunity to wild-foster this youngster.

🐣 Today, this kestrel is back where it belongs...being raised by wild parents and growing up alongside its new siblings.

Fly free, young one! πŸ£πŸ’œ

We receive support requests from people from all walks of life.

🐣 Recently, Jojo, who is experiencing homelessness here in Central Ohio, reached out to us for help with a group of baby robins she had found.

🐣 Jojo went above and beyond for these little birds. Knowing they needed warmth to survive, she kept them close to her throughout the night to help keep them alive until help could be arranged.

🐣 A week later, these baby robins are still fighting hard just as Jojo fought for them on that very first night.

Today, we’d like to thank Jojo for her compassion and kindness, and to recognize the many people who support wildlife each year. Every act of care, no matter how big or small, can make a difference. πŸ’œπŸ£πŸ’œ

Did you know it's baby bat season? πŸ¦‡

🚨 We have received many calls and messages about baby bats being found on the ground or on the sides of buildings and trees.

What do you do if you find a baby bat?
πŸ“ŒContact a rehabber IMMEDIATELY!! Newborn Bats are very fragile and need care quickly (blood sugar, dehydration, warmth, and humidity are some of the unique needs for these little ones)
πŸ“ŒEven young bats can carry rabies, so make sure to use proper protection when picking up the babies

πŸ“ŒTo find a rehabber and/or transportation close to you visit: https://batworld.org/local-rescue/ or call 940-325-3404

This story took a team effort with support from TLC Wildlife Management!

Last month, Turkey Vulture patient 2949 was found entrapped in a commercial space. TLC Wildlife Management contained and brought the animal to us for medical review.

The vulture was weak, dehydrated, and emaciated from being trapped for many days.

After a few weeks of.... TLC. It was ready to return home!

Thank you to TLC Wildlife Management and the community for making this rescue happen!

YOUR support makes stories like this possible.
