PEP had our second annual field day today (thankfully we were all finished before the storms started moving in). We challenged our 66 students this spring to read 25,000 minutes during National Reading Month. They had some incentives along the way; pajama day, popsicle party, pizza party, and getting to pie their director in the face. They not only met their goal but exceeded it by over 7,000 minutes! If you want in on the fun at PEP this fall email [email protected] to get on the wait-list. We don't know exactly how many spots will be available yet but we know there will be a few openings.

Our friends at Barefoot University Powell are hosting a Maker's Market tomorrow afternoon to benefit the Blessings Box at Powell Presbyterian. Our kids have been busy creating crafts and creations to "sell" in exchange for non-perishable food items. For every two non-perishable items you donate you'll receive one Barefoot Buck to shop their incredible creations all while helping feed our neighbors. Stop by the back parking lot at Powell Presbyterian on Friday from 4-6 to shop. Cash donations are accepted and will be used to purchase winter gear for our neighbors in need.

Vo-Tech at PEP (Powell Educational Partners) has at least 4 openings in our program for the 2022-2023 year. This fully immersive automotive vocational program is taught by a team of dedicated volunteers and will meet weekly on Thursday evenings, as well as twice monthly on Saturdays from August to early June. This class is targeted toward students 7th-12th grade with an interest in skilled trades as a career. For more information please email us at [email protected]

We want to brag on our Vo-Tech Program students a little today. They have been working hard in the heat and the cold on their project since September. The very first week they managed to start their truck which hadn't started in 24 years and today with some snow on the ground they pulled the last part of the body off. They have spent 26 hours (approximately 448 man hours) disassembling their truck and are entering the last stage before reassembly (the motor and transmission should come out next week). Through the heat and cold, dark and blinding sun, heavy lifting and troubleshooting they have stayed in good spirits with very little complaining. These students and instructors (and parents) have really made us proud!
