We are volunteers, working with the city of Poulsbo and community to design and build a new covered modern concrete skatepark in Poulsbo, WA that promotes active fitness, community, arts, and sustainability for today and future generations! We are a group of residents and volunteers from Poulsbo and the greater Kitsap Community who are working with the City of Poulsbo to create a new covered moder
n concrete skatepark. Our effort is dedicated to creating a new skatepark that provides today and future generations of Poulsbo and Kitsap County residents both young and aged with a professionally built modern concrete skatepark with a roof enabling year-round use and activity! Looking at examples from across the region, nation, and world cities are realizing the benefit of unstructured recreation places like skateparks that serve a wide variety of park users from skateboards, skaters, scooters, bikes and become some of the most used recreation facilities in many communities. We are also conscious that if we're going to build something for the public it should demonstrate the best-in-class forms of stewardship and be inspired by the place: so we are also imagining that the park and the roof collects rainwater that could help irrigate native plantings, the architecture of the roof and structure could include artistic panels inspired by local tribes and even nordic motifs, and the parking lot could use Low Impact Development strategies to do the most good possible in terms of treating storm water onsite and creating pollinator habitat. Additionally, a park that is built with a roof, would ensure that in this climate and region, residents can remain active year-round and promote an activity that boosts health and wellness such as aerobic, intensity, and cardiovascular benefits! With this vision the future Poulsbo Skatepark would be a place that promotes active fitness and recreation, becomes a cherished community destination, and offers a place for life-long multi-generational activity and health and wellness. Our group is partnered with Crossroads Rotary of Poulsbo as our Fiscal Sponsor and our volunteer coalition is partnered with the City of Poulsbo Parks Commission. Together, we are working towards selecting a site, applying for State RCO Grants, and rolling out community engagement and events to bring people together and celebrate the vision we have for a future Poulsbo Skatepark.
