(c) to further extend community support for this iconic genre of music known as jazz and blues. Organization Objective
1. It is our intent each year to raise awareness of various social issues affecting those less fortunate. A different cause will be selected from year to year.
2. To involve the overall community in the spirit of giving by conducting an annual Christmas Benefit Concert for low income families with children, and the homeless. PROGRAMS
The Aniya C. O'Neal Book Mobile for Homeless Families with Children Shelters
According to the, National Center on Family Homelessness, "2.5 million children are now homeless each year in America," and the number contnues to grow. It is a systemic problem - facing nearly every state, county, and city throughout the US. Between 2013-2014 school year, there were an estimated 1.4 million school aged children not enrolled in US school systems. Although there is no accurate means of measuring the exact number of children not enrolled, it is suspected that the number of homeless children significantly increase this number. In 2015, 1,263,323 homeless students were registered in public schools. As would be expected, a significant number of these children, without a stable environment, struggle to meet academic standards. To assist in maintaining the educational development of these forgotten children, The Aniya C. O'Neal Book Mobile project is designed to provide books and learning tools to several shelters that house families with children within the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. O'Neal Cares Project Annual Christmas Benefit Concert
Each qualified family in need will receive tickets to the WCJS Radio/Andrew and Mary P. O'Neal Cares Project Annual Christmas Benefit Concert, a Christmas tree, food basket, with each child receiving a small sack with toys from Santa. All additional monies raised during the benefit concert will be distributed between various agencies servicing the homeless.
