Battle of Rhode Island Chapter, DAR, Portsmouth RI We are a new chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Based in Portsmouth, RI, we also serve Middletown, Tiverton & Little Compton.

We are a service organization for veterans, active military, educators and historic preservation efforts.

Founding Mothers, Oct. 26, 2025, at Founders Brook Park. The Portsmouth Conservation Commission, as part of the Discovering Your Portsmouth program, hosted local actors and DAR members honoring the Founding Mother who came to this wilderness with Anne Hutchinson. Letters between Anne Hutchinson and her staunch friend Mary Dyer were read, DAR members proclaimed the names of 34 Founding Mothers, and an article that appeared in 1960 was read urging Portsmouth residents to protest against a cloverleaf for Route 24 planned to go through Founders Brook.

The Battle of Rhode Island Chapter, NSDAR, chose cleaning gravestones at the Portsmouth Friends Church as our annual service project. As of October, 2025, we have cleaned 96 gravestones and have about 50 more to clean. We honor our founders, veterans and ancestors with this service.

At our September meeting we presented two Community Service Awards. The first went to the Aquidneck Food Bank for providing necessary food items, including local produce, to those in need, without question. They received a certificate, check and eleven bags of groceries from chapter members. The second award went to Four Hearts Foundation, for their dedication to creating an inclusive playground on Turnpike Avenue. They received a certificate, check, and a native hydrangea bush to be planted at the playground. Congratulations!

The Battle of Rhode Island chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution was organizing in December 2024. At our first meeting we wrote messages in 99 holiday cards for veterans at the Bristol Veterans Home. The cards had been decorated by the 4th grade class of Ms. Pietz, Guiterez School. We are now over 50 members strong, serving the communities of Portsmouth, Middletown, Tiverton and Little Compton. Please see our website at ridar.org/battleofrhodeisland/
