Summer Program Spotlight! Meet Lupe 🌎✨

Meet Lupe, a rising senior who spent two inspiring weeks at Brown University’s Pre-College Program studying Global Health: Inequality, Culture, and Human Well-being Around the World.

The experience challenged her to think critically about health, inequality, and the world around her—and inspired her future goals in Public Health and Public Policy.

Beyond the classroom, Lupe gained confidence, developed new skills, built friendships, and experienced college life firsthand.

“The program strengthened my critical thinking, challenged me to see the world differently, and gave me the confidence to imagine a future I hadn’t considered before.”

Want to read more about Lupe’s experience at Brown this summer? Take a look at our Impact Report on our bio to read more about her journey💙

Looking for a meaningful way to make an impact this year?

We’re recruiting mentors for our next cohort of students at our NE Portland and Hillsboro sites, and we’re looking for professionals, retirees, and community members who are ready to invest in the next generation.

You don’t need to have all the answers—just a willingness to listen, encourage, and share your experiences. Your time and guidance can help students build confidence, explore career pathways, and achieve their goals.

If you’re ready to make a lasting difference in a student’s life, we’d love to connect with you! Schedule a coffee chat to talk more about being a mentor and other volunteer opportunities!

Our sophomores and juniors are officially heading off to their summer programs, and we couldn’t be more excited for them! ✈️💙

Over the next two months, our students will experience college life, live in residence halls, engage in enriching academic opportunities, and build connections with peers from across the country. For many, this will be their first time away from home—and for some, even their first flight. These experiences are helping students build confidence, independence, and a vision for their future.

A special thank you to our incredible donors who make these opportunities possible. Thanks to the $127,000 raised at our Annual Jazz Soirée 🥂, our students are gaining access to life-changing experiences that will open doors and shape their futures for years to come. 💙

Thank you for believing in our students and investing in their potential. We can’t wait to see all they accomplish this summer! ✈️☀️

What an incredible evening celebrating 20 years of impact at the Minds Matter Portland at our Annual Jazz Soirée Fundraiser! ✨

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported our mission over the past two decades. We are especially grateful to our students and alumni who courageously shared their stories and reminded us why this work matters.

To our donors, supporters, mentors, and community partners—thank you for believing in the potential of every student and for continuing to invest in their futures. Together, we’re creating opportunities, changing lives, and building a stronger community.

Here’s to the next 20 years! 💙🥂

✨ Grad Spotlight! 🎓✨

“Minds Matter was truly a life-changing program that helped mold me into the person I am today.” — Anai

As a first-generation student, Anai found guidance, opportunity, and support through Minds Matter Portland that transformed the way she viewed her future. 💙

Through programs like Johns Hopkins University Pre-College and Yale Young Global Scholars, Anai explored social inequality, public health, and independence while gaining the confidence to navigate the college journey.
With the support of her mentors Hana, Mohan, Danielle, and counselor Kathleen, Anai learned the value of accountability, perseverance, and believing in herself.

This fall, Anai will attend Pomona College to study Psychological Sciences.
