HOLLA Mentors

HOLLA Mentors Changing the narrative of Black & Brown youth through culturally responsive relationships

Holla Mentors is a culturally responsive mentorship organization that since it’s inception has fostered a community of socially active neighbors, local entrepreneurs and committed professionals willing to foster healthy relationships with children and teens who are economically challenged and significantly at risk within the structures of the educational system.

Big news! 🌟 HOLLA and The Rosewood Initiative are partnering up to amplify our work this Giving Tuesday, because working together means better opportunities and outcomes for our neighborhood! 🤝🏽🏡

We are neighbors, but our organizations share more than a neighborhood. We share a mission—to uplift, support, and respond to the needs of our community. Whether that’s providing vital resources, economic opportunities, and health services, or offering mentorship and relationship-building, we’re committed to showing up together. 💛📚✨

By working collaboratively, we strengthen our neighborhoods and empower the people who live here. We believe that when one neighborhood thrives, we all thrive. 🌱🌍

Your support truly means the world to us. This giving season, we invite you to be a part of our work. Your donation helps both HOLLA and The Rosewood Initiative continue providing the vital programs and services our community deserves. 🙏🏽❤️

We’ve received confirmed reports of ICE activity near Alder Elementary, Highland Elementary, and Gresham High School, as well as sightings in Hillsboro, Sandy, and Woodburn.

We’ve been told that these are “targeted operations,” but I can’t stay silent knowing that ICE has detained individuals without deportation orders — people simply working, caring for their families, and contributing to our communities. That’s not justice. That’s fear.

Please stay alert and informed:
• You have the right to remain silent.
• You do not have to open your door without a judicial warrant signed by a judge.
• You do not have to sign any documents.
• You have the right to due process.

Even if the Trump administration is choosing not to honor these basic rights, I will stand up for our innocent immigrant and working family communities.

To report ICE sightings:
📞 PIRC Hotline: 1-888-622-1510

For help or resources:
📞 ECO (Community Resource): 1-888-274-7292

Let’s look out for one another. No one should live in fear for being part of our community.

As for Gresham and East Multnomah County, expect stronger ICE presence in the following days.

10/15/2025

I know that news of ICE sightings near our neighborhoods is creating real fear — especially for parents taking their kids to school each morning. I want to assure our families that our schools remain safe places for students to learn, grow, and be cared for. No child should ever be afraid to go to school.

At the same time, I understand that fear deeply. During the Bush administration in the early 2000s, I remember what it felt like to live with that constant worry — barely sleeping, always wondering if my mom would make it home. That trauma doesn’t leave you easily. It stays with you.

That’s why tomorrow and this week I will personally be at Alder Elementary and Highland Elementary — two schools where ICE activity was reported nearby — to support our families and make sure our community knows we are looking out for one another.

Let’s continue to look out for our neighbors, share accurate information, and keep calm. Our community is strong because we show up for one another — in moments like these, that matters most.

HOLLA Scholars is underway! Monday night we had our welcome dinner Eem PDX, and we’re elated for these brilliant, bold, and passionate student mentors starting their journey in mentorship.
This special group includes students from Portland State, Warner Pacific, and Portland Community College.

We shared tasty Thai food, connected with one another, and celebrated the start of what’s sure to be an amazing year.
We can’t wait to see the relationships they build and the impact they’ll make — what a year we have ahead of us!
