Let’s talk about the Performing Arts + Culture Center’s lobby!

⭐ Imagine soaring spaces highlighting the striking mass timber construction

⭐ Imagine 17,500 square feet of patron amenities (for reference, that’s triple the size of the current Keller Auditorium lobby)

⭐ Imagine looking forward to intermission. Grabbing a treat at multiple bars and snack carts, chatting with friends, shopping for merch, greeting performers and visiting the ample number of restrooms. All in time for curtain up!

⭐ And in between shows, the lobby can host cultural events, pop ups, artistic exhibitions, private parties and school activities.

All together: Big! Bright! Breathtaking!

What will it take to sustain and grow Portland’s arts ecosystem for the next 100 years?

The Performing Arts + Culture Center is designed as more than a venue — it’s a fully integrated cultural hub.

Inside the Center:

✳ A Broadway-capable theater
✳ Community and academic theater
✳ Classrooms, studio and rehearsal space
✳ Space for local arts organizations
✳ A hotel and conference center to drive year-round activity

By creating a space that is active 365 days a year, this project supports artists, students, audiences and the regional economy — while strengthening Portland’s position as a cultural destination.

The Performing Arts + Culture Center will create significant economic activity, generate thousands of jobs and be the market signal Portland needs.

The Center’s development will create an estimated 400 permanent jobs and 2,000 construction jobs and open up possibilities for additional economic activity in the district. It will activate seven blocks of readily developable proximate property with spillover investment potential of around $1 billion beyond the initial Center construction investment.

PSU is excited about a downtown arts vision that could include both the Keller Auditorium and Performing Arts + Culture Center sites. The bigger the vision, the more it can deliver for the arts, for students, and for our city.

Only a few blocks apart, the two locations are linked by an amazing series of urban parks and fountains that would come alive with public amenities at either end.

Highlights of the proposal include:
- A Broadway-capable theater sited at the 4.25 acre Performing Arts + Culture Center location, which has space for fantastic amenities and tomorrow’s blockbuster shows
- A mid-sized theater at the Keller site, preserving its legacy as a performing arts venue
- A community and academic theater at the Center, optimized for smaller and more diverse arts groups, and both K-12 and college student performances

By staging construction over a decade, the plan avoids job loss and economic disruptions, and keeps Broadway in Portland.

Portland State is committed to serving the entire arts ecosystem, collaborating with arts advocates and civic leaders, and helping drive Portland’s economic and cultural vitality for generations to come.
