Today we pause to honor the brave young people who came before us and celebrate those walking boldly into the future.
In 1976, thousands of Black schoolchildren in Soweto, South Africa marched to demand quality education and the right to be taught in their own languages. Armed police responded with gunfire and hundreds of children were killed. Their courage shook the world and ignited a movement that could not be silenced.
In 1991, the Organization of African Unity established June 16th as the International Day of the African Child to honor the Soweto Uprising and protect the right to education for every child in Africa.
That legacy lives in every girl who walks through our doors.
The young women of TGFT are scholars, leaders, and changemakers rising from communities across Tanzania with purpose and vision. They are not waiting to change the world. They are already doing it. 💛
To every girl in our programs: you are seen, you are celebrated, and you are the future of Africa. 🇹🇿
