You know the pickle episode from Portlandia? Rumor has it that Lannie helped inspire it years ago while teaching a cooking class and confidently declaring that just about anything could be pickled.

Now it’s our turn to jam.

Thank you Lannie for helping lead our jam-making class this Saturday at . We’re excited to make something delicious, introduce more folks to our culinary training program, and bring more people back downtown to America’s first food cart pod.

Also yes, the person (our development director) dramatically acting in this video was recently approached by talent agencies. We’re hoping a few more ticket sales convince her to keep her day job because we’d hate to lose her.

But… in the meantime…Want to win 2 free tickets?

Comment your favorite type of jam and tag 1 friend below. Winner announced Thursday at 5pm. ⭐️🎟️

Imogen graduated from our culinary training program this year and credits her barista skills to both the program and her dad’s obsession with espresso machines.

Since graduating, she’s been working shifts in our cafe and sharing everything she’s learned with our team and community. Imogen is a quick learner with a calm confidence behind the bar.

When asked what advice she would give future students, she said:

“There’s plenty of time to learn and adjust. You can come in with any level of experience and leave with so much more knowledge and confidence.”

We’re so proud to you, Imogen!

Last night, our Executive Director Ellen Damaschino testified at the first Multnomah County budget hearing for the FY27 budget.

In Chair Vega Pederson’s proposed budget, County-funded employment services face devastating cuts — including an $80,000 loss to Stone Soup and even deeper impacts to many of our partner organizations.
Ellen spoke not just for us, but in solidarity with the broader community of organizations working every day to support people navigating homelessness, reentry, and systemic barriers. As she shared, “employment isn’t separate from housing stability — it’s what makes it possible.”

We’re urging commissioners to protect funding for employment services — because these programs work, and because cuts will ripple far beyond any single organization.

We stand with .association and many others in asking the County to invest in solutions that create lasting stability.

Surprise! 🥳🥳🥳

We made some moves at . If you didn’t know, we opened our cafe about a year ago as an extension of the program, giving participants another space to learn, grow, and build real experience.

We’re open Monday through Thursday from 7 to 3, and every dollar spent goes right back into the program.

We wanted a way to catch the eyes of our neighborhood, the city, and the people who already know and support us. So, we went big.

Thank you to Aaron at for bringing this to life and to Andrew Eastman for designing the look and logo. The impact is already showing.

🚨Volunteer Spotlight 🚨

Jason has been volunteering with us for over a year, and his impact is everywhere. He’s the kind of person who doesn’t just show up, he looks for ways to help us grow and then gets to work making it happen.

From food prep, to building our new menu board, to recently helping us streamline how we collect data, Jason has played a part in shaping how we operate day to day.

Thank you SO much for all of your help!

Starting off Earth Week strong 💪

This morning, we kicked things off at the cafe before heading out to pick up 80 pounds of trash along Glisan Street.

We loved seeing folks come together, some teaming up to take on the project and others enjoying a solo reset while helping clean up the neighborhood.

Thank you to the team, the volunteers, and the weather forecast for being amazing 🌎

“I might have lost some of my real family, but I’ve found a new family here. Thank you guys.”

Rich just graduated from our 12 week culinary training program with a job already lined up. We celebrated at the café, and reflected on how hard he’s worked to get here. From day one, his goal was clear, and after several interviews, he made it happen.

We’ll miss you, Rich, and we’re excited for everything ahead. You did it!
