Alaska Native Brotherhood/Alaska Native Sisterhood Columbia River Camp 49

Alaska Native Brotherhood/Alaska Native Sisterhood Columbia River Camp 49 Columbia River ANB/ANS Camp 49 is a chapter of the ANB/ANS Grand Camp, the oldest known indigenous persons' civil rights organization.

Credited Achievements:
1924 citizenship for Native Alaskans and all Natives across the United States including the right to vote, including the entitlement to exercise all the privileges granted to all citizens. Won their position in court allowing the integration of Native children in public schools the same public schools Natives were supporting with their tax contributions

Successful in the ex

tension of workman’s compensation to Native Alaskans

Successful in the extension of the old age pension for Alaskan Natives

1936: Success in having the Indian Reorganization Act amended to include Alaska

Success in obtaining a large appropriation for Native hospitals in Alaska

Success in equalizing the amounts given to recipients of old-age pensions

1945: Success in the passage of Alaska’s Anti-Discrimination bill

1971: ANB and ANS worked diligently supporting the passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act, without terminating tribal rights and property. 12 in-state regional business corporations and multiple Native village corporations were formed to manage money and land that Alaska Natives received in the settlement. ANB and ANS continues to address health and other social concerns for Natives.




1945 or 88: Elizabeth Peratrovich Day an honor henceforth every February 16 for taking a stand for civil rights and her speech to the Alaskan legislature concerning discrimination. Civil rights

Good afternoon ANB/ANS Camp 49 please note that due to the loss of two loved and respected members in our Greater Portland Native Community. Our meeting will be rescheduled from 11-1 on 10/18 to Zoom on Wednesday 10/23 at 6:30 pm.

The Alaska Native Brotherhood & Sisterhood Grand Camp Executive Committee invites you to attend the 113th Grand Camp from October 1-4, 2025. The convention will be held in Wrangell, AK at The Nolan Center. Wrangell ANB/ANS Local Camp are our hosts this year. Registration, Warming of the Hands, and Welcome Dinner will be on October 1st, 2025. Grand Camp convenes “in person” on October 2nd, 2025.
