❄️ Polarkr(e)is: Drifting North
📅 Monday, April 28 | 7:30 PM
📍 Lincoln Performance Hall
🎻 Performed by Meta4 String Quartet
Embark on a northern journey of sound as Meta4 weaves together music born of snow, spirit, and tradition.
🎼 Kaija Saariaho – Fleurs de neige
Inspired by the crystalline beauty of snow, this shimmering five-minute quartet grew from the final movement of Saariaho’s earlier octet Neige, transformed into something delicate and new just for Meta4.
🎼 Amy Beach – Quartet in One Movement, Op. 89
Composed in Rome but echoing the far North, Beach incorporates Inuit melodies with deep respect and artistry in this striking one-movement work from 1929.
🎼 Krishna Nagaraja – Stringar for String Quartet
Blending Norwegian folk dance, South Indian rhythm, and Finnish spirit, Stringar dances across regions and cultures with wild energy and rhythmic complexity.
🎼 Jean Sibelius – String Quartet in D minor, Op. 56 "Voces Intimae"
A hauntingly introspective masterpiece, this is the only string quartet Sibelius published, filled with intensity and Nordic soul.
Join us for a musical expedition through the landscapes of the North — from the snow-covered silence of Finland to the vibrant folk traditions of Norway and Alaska.
