The Community Peace Collaborative (CPC) forum on Friday, October 17th will be distinctly different from our regular CPC meetings. Attendees will be invited to engage in a structured dialogue in response to the art exhibition entitled, “Envision A Future Without Gun Violence”. The art works were created by
15 Parkrose High School BIPOC students and 20 Lewis and Clark art therapy faculty, graduate students and community members after experiencing the Visioning Beyond Violence program. The focus of the meeting will be to engage in facilitated highly structured dialogue in small groups where participants will be given time to reflect and time to respond to two key questions.

In order to optimize our structured reflective time together, please:

1. Come at 9:45 to network and get snacks.
2. Our meeting will begin at 10:15 and end at 12:00.
3. Stay for the entire meeting
4. Register for this meeting using the QR Code in picture below.

The meeting is at the Lewis and Clark College Counseling Center on the second floor of the Grande Ronde Tribal Building at 4445 SW Barbur Blvd. See attached map.

The nonprofit, Visioning Beyond Violence (VBV), was founded in 2015 in Southern Oregon and has facilitated training with hundreds of youth and adults to amplify their voices and visions to prevent gun violence. We look forward to you seeing this inspiring art exhibition and your participation in this
structured dialogue!

Join Us: Wear Orange Community Peace Collaborative (CPC) forum

Friday, June 6th, 2025 - 10:30 AM @ East Precinct Community Room

This month’s CPC will be dedicated to honoring the mission and impact of the Wear Orange campaign. Alongside our regular CPC agenda, this special convening will include:
• Expanded breakfast and refreshments
• Free Wear Orange t-shirts for attendees
• Brief overview of the Wear Orange movement
• Interactive activity to honor lives affected by gun violence
• & As always, a time to connect and network with community members and partners

This gathering is open to all who care about making our communities safer and showing support for gun violence prevention efforts in Portland and beyond. Please feel free to invite your networks as well! See you all there.

What is Wear Orange?
Wear Orange is a national campaign that began in honor of Hadiya Pendleton, a Chicago teenager who was shot and killed just one week after performing at President Obama’s second inaugural parade in 2013. Her friends chose the color orange—the color hunters wear to protect themselves from gunfire—to raise awareness about gun violence and honor the countless lives lost or forever changed by it.

Today, Wear Orange is observed annually across the country as a time for communities to come together, advocate for change, and show support for survivors of gun violence.

Black History Month 2024

The Office of Violence Prevention proudly honors the rich tapestry of Black history, resilience, and achievements. As we commemorate the legacies of trailblazers and heroes who’ve shaped our world, we are reminded that their contributions continue to inspire positive change in our communities.

May we take time to reflect, celebrate, and amplify the voices that have made a lasting impact. From civil rights leaders to artists, innovators, and everyday heroes, each story contributes to the vibrant mosaic that is Black History. And may we continue the journey towards a more inclusive and compassionate Portland.

Indigenous People’s Day

On this Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the history, spirit, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous People from the area now known as Portland, which rests on the homelands and traditional territory of many neighboring tribal nations.

While we celebrate, we must also reflect on the legacies of violence, colonization, and displacement that continue to shape our city today. Facing this truth is essential to healing and building a better, more equitable city for Tribal Nations and people.

I hope you make time today to celebrate in community. Thank you, and Happy Indigenous People’s Day!
