Olha’s death also illuminated another stark reality of this Russian missile attack – being the fact that her body was at least identifiable. Government reports indicate that the vast majority of the victims had to be identified through the use of forensic DNA analyses because the force of the blasts was so devastating.

Three days before I arrived in Ukraine, at 10:30 in the morning on July 14th, three Russian Kalibr cruise missiles slammed into the center of the city of Vinnytsia in what was yet another intentional focused attack on civilian targets, where the Russians purposefully avoided hitting any of the various military installations found in and around this city of 370,000, so that instead they could further terrorize everyday Ukrainian citizens.

Amid the tense, managed chaos that is life on the front lines of the largest and most consequential war in Europe since World War II, battlefield friendships were quickly made and even quicker to become a bond that will persist long after this war is over.

For our final week in Ukraine, in one bold, swift surge our fully supplied Mission Team left Odessa under the cloud of Russian missiles and began pushing eastward across the combat zones of Southwestern Ukraine, delivering aid to field hospitals and small villages, resupplying troops and rescuing children and families along “The Zero Line”, what the Ukrainians call the front lines of this War.

The courageous Doctors and Nurses on the front lines of the War – and how we can help them.

In his “real life” (or in his life before the Russian invasion), Dr. Yuri was enjoying his work as a child anesthesiologist, tending to the needs of small children in the peaceful historic city of Odessa. Today, and in the five preceding months, his life and his medical practice has changed so dramatically that he cannot even remember what a “normal” day was like for him back then.

Our Mission’s Aid Delivery Footprint now appearing in News Headlines

On July 26th, validated reports revealed that Russia is reinforcing the southwestern flank of the combat zone in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions, which is near where our Mission Team was based as recent as July 22nd.

In the coming days, as we are pushing further south and then east into the primary combat zone, for the safety of the Ukrainian troops we will be visiting, I won’t be divulging any details associated with their specific identities, locations, troop composition and size, or any other information that might reveal critically important military activity, plans and locations.

Mission Day 2
Our Mission Team has grown by three today, while a very grateful Governor Kozytskyy warmly received our Mission Team and led some very productive meetings to facilitate our Mission trip.

We’re leaving Lviv at 7:00 am tomorrow and going to Drohobych, where we’re going to rescue a “family” of five children ages 5 and up, who lost BOTH parents to The War – their father was killed in March on the front lines, and their mother died last month before her children’s eyes in a Russian artillery attack…and they have no living relatives left in Ukraine – that is until we arrive. We’re their new family.

As I sit here in front of my computer for one of the last times before embarking for Ukraine, I’m beginning to see that as my missionary trip has become more and more “real” it has brought with it a renewal of the questioning I get from not just family, friends, business colleagues and mission supporters, but everyone it seems, from news reporters to the waitress at my morning coffee stop. Each one of them poses one variation or another on the basic question of “so WHY are you going to Ukraine?”
