BONNIE SMITH – 2026 JUBILEE QUEEN

Bonnie is proud and honored to serve as the Jubilee Queen for 2026.

Her parents moved to Port Orford in 1959. She was a13 year old, entering high school. She met Frank Smith the first day of school. Bonnie and Frank became high school sweet hearts and were married for 58 years.

After graduation, Bonnie attended Western Business College in Portland, Oregon. After graduating from WBC, she moved to Corvallis, Oregon and worked at Good Samaritan Hospital as a medical transcriber for two years before marrying Frank. After that, (Frank being in the Navy) they moved to Puerto Rico and then settling in San Diego for 20 years.

Bonnie has two sons. Todd, who lives in the Portland area and David who is an Oregon State Senator. She also has 2 granddaughters, Jayden and Antonia.

Both she and Frank were active in their son’s schooling and sports. Track, soccer, cross country. Little league and baseball. Bonnie volunteered at Pacific High School for many events while David was a student there. Active parents to cheer for the “Pirates” basketball team.

A dedicated member of the Port Orford Community, she and Frank (now deceased) were owners of the Port and Starboard Restaurant and Lounge for 25 years, a landmark in Port Orford. They sold the restaurant in 2015 and it was located on the corner where The Salty Dawg currently does business.

Bonnie also worked at Curry Family Medical in the business office for 15 years.

She has been a volunteer for the Jubilee Committee in past years. She volunteered as a cook for “Meals for Neighbors” and “Taco Friday” at the Senior Center. You can find her every Friday at the Senior Center Thrift Store where she has worked for 12 years. She has served as the Senior Center President for the past 9 years.

Bonnie and her husband started the Port Orford Rotary Scholarship Dinners to raise money for Graduating Seniors. It was a great success and has raised lasting funds to establish a Foundation for graduating Seniors for years to come.

She is a long-time member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA), a philanthropic organization in support of St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and Easter Seals. She has held the office of Secretary for 5 years and has helped with fundraising activities to support the Organization. She was also in charge of recruiting and coordinating vendors for the Annual ESA Christmas Bazaar each December.

Bonnie says it is truly an honor to be the Jubilee Queen for 2026 and she looks forward to helping out ‘whenever and whatever’ type of capacity in our beautiful City of Port Orford.

TOBE PORTER – 2026 PARADE GRAND MARSHAL

Tobe Porter will serve as this year’s Grand Marshal for the Port Orford Parade and Jubilee.

Tobe and family moved to Port Orford, Oregon in 1991 from Pescadero, California. Prior to moving here, she was a stay-at-home Mom. During her time in California, she went to work for a Non-Profit company specializing in Children’s Education where she was the Secretary. During her tenure there, she wrote her first Grant to raise monies for the Organization. This was the first grant of ‘many’ she would write over the years.

In August of 1992, she became the Library Director in Langlois, Oregon. During her time there, she wrote more grants, raised monies, volunteered her time working diligently with others to build a new Library in Langlois. It only took 7 years to complete the Project.

At some point, she also became the Library Director in Port Orford, where she managed both libraries and also led the efforts to build a new Library in Port Orford. She has been instrumental in writing grants, fundraising, organizing and coordinating efforts. This Library also took 7 years of hard work to build.

Tobe says she has worked in Libraries since she was 15 years old. She said, “I just LOVE Libraries, I love the smell, the books, the silence and the welcoming feeling you get when you are in one.”

Tobe described herself as a “Cheerleader Volunteer”. She has recently been Co-Chair of the Voluntary Fundraising Committee to re-furbish the Port Orford Community Building that recently re-opened. Tobe and the Volunteer Committee continue to fundraise and work on a re-build/refurbish of the American Legion Hall as part two of the Community Center Project.

Being the community volunteer that she is, you can frequently find her in the Senior Center kitchen, wearing an apron and helping prepare ‘Senior Meals’ and ‘Meals for Neighbors’. She is also a Member of the Port Orford Senior Center Board.

For several years, she has volunteered for the Non-Profit Port Orford Friends of Feral Cats (POFFC). Their Mission is to reduce the feral cat population in Port Orford through spaying and neutering.

Port Orford is so fortunate to have Tobe Porter as one of our Outstanding Citizens who has given much to the Community
