As we celebrate Independence Day, we also reflect on the enduring principles that shaped our nation.

Among the grievances listed in the Declaration of Independence were the denial of fair trials, the obstruction of justice, and the transportation of people to face "pretended offences." From the very beginning, our nation recognized that liberty and justice are inseparable.

Today, we celebrate the freedoms we enjoy while remembering the families whose loved ones are behind prison walls. Their circumstances may differ, but their humanity does not.

At Family Justice Support Alliance, we believe supporting families, encouraging accountability, and fostering hope are all part of strengthening our communities—and honoring the ideals on which our country was founded.

Wishing everyone a safe, meaningful, and Happy Independence Day. 🇺🇸

We are deeply saddened by the tragic events in Minnesota.

It is not the goal of Family Justice Support Alliance to determine guilt or innocence. Our sole objective is to provide families with the information they need to achieve the best possible outcome, especially in stressful or unfamiliar circumstances. The recent incidents have raised complex questions. It is important to acknowledge the uncertainties individuals may face when interacting with law enforcement and to offer clear, practical guidance on how to stay safe in such situations.

If you encounter law enforcement, these are our recommendations:

• DO NOT become involved in any situation that does not directly involve you
• DO NOT resist
• DO NOT fight with law enforcement
• DO NOT attempt to flee or run away
• Listen and do what you are told to do
• If you have anything that could be considered a weapon, tell them immediately
• You may remain silent and not answer questions
• You may request an attorney before you answer any questions

May God’s guidance and blessings be with you throughout 2026.

After more than 50 years, a father writes to —not asking for himself, but for the people he loves most. His wishes are simple, powerful, and deeply human. Read Family Justice Support Alliance Founder, Chris Boals’ letter in its entirety here: https://bit.ly/4jdvCPN

While letters to Santa often ask for toys or treats, Amanda writes a different kind of letter—her voice is raw, honest, and full of hope. Her words carry heartache, faith, and a longing for her family’s well-being. Amanda’s letter reminds us of the true spirit of giving and the power of love. This season, we hope it inspires us to hold our families close, keep our faith, and approach the world with empathy and compassion.

Dear Santa,

It’s Christmas at Lowell once again! Don’t forget I moved from the Work Camp to the Annex in case you are looking for me.

I promise I've been as good as possible in the situational housing where I currently reside. I've stayed kind when I wanted to scream. I loved freely without reserve. I obeyed all (most, some) of the rules set by the state. I followed procedures, even the most abstract, weird, nonsense ones. I did what I was supposed to when I was supposed to.

But Santa, this year has been tough. Now, I know what you're thinking. Sure Amanda, every year has been tough. But Santa, this year has really been tough.
