Welcome to the Save-A-Pet Animal Rescue and Adoption Center's page. We are located in Port Jefferson Station on Long Island, New York. At our Long Island animal shelter, we believe it is our moral responsibility to protect and improve the lives of abused, abandoned, and homeless cats and dogs, and to place them in loving permanent homes. We provide spay and neuter services for Long Island

feral cats and any necessary medical care for pets. We work diligently to educate the public, especially children, on the importance of pet sterilization, responsible pet ownership and the humane treatment of animals. If you are looking to adopt a pet, please view the dogs and cats in our Long Island adoption shelter and then fill out our online adoption application. We are a non-profit, no-kill shelter 501(C)3 organization located in the heart of Long Island, New York founded in 1994. We are supported solely by public donations and every dollar makes a difference. Your support can save the life of a cat or dog. It is our intention to provide you with the most current and the latest information on our events and fundraisers. Phantom is STILL waiting for his forever home, and honestly, we can’t understand why.

This gorgeous Husky mix is everything people say they are looking for. He is handsome, loving, affectionate, and has a heart as beautiful as his striking looks. Phantom adores people and is the kind of dog who forms a deep bond with his family. He is ready to give someone a lifetime of love and loyalty.

We also want to gently clear up a misconception. From time to time, we see comments saying, “I applied and nobody ever called me.” We take every serious application very seriously and respond to qualified applicants. If you are interested in Phantom, please make sure your application was fully submitted! And come on down!

Meet Molly ❤️
Molly is a beautiful 10 month old pup who is looking for a new family through no fault of her own. She was adopted as a young puppy and deeply loved, but her owners have recently taken on increased work responsibilities, leaving Molly spending far too much time alone.

Molly is an awesome girl with a wonderful personality. She loves everyone she meets and is always ready to make new friends. She does great with other dogs and enjoys being part of the action. While we are not sure how she is with cats, we know she adores people!

Molly is still young, full of love, and ready for a family that has the time to give her the attention and companionship she deserves.

Sometimes love creates a legacy that continues to change lives.

We are so happy to share that Snowflake has been adopted by Stephanie Colella and her family in memory of her beloved son, Chris. Chris was a tremendous animal lover, and through the kindness and compassion of his family, his love for animals continues to make a difference.

Snowflake came to us from NYC, where she was at risk of euthanasia due to overcrowding. Frightened, withdrawn, and depressed, she desperately needed someone to give her a chance.

Today, Snowflake’s story has a beautiful new chapter. She is headed home with a wonderful family who will cherish and love her, just as every animal deserves.

We know Chris would be smiling knowing that another life was saved in his honor. His compassion lives on through the animals his family continues to help and the lives they continue to change.

Thank you, Stephanie and family, for opening your hearts to Snowflake and for keeping Chris’s loving spirit alive. ❤️🐾

Wonderful news! 🖤🐾

We are thrilled to share that two of our beautiful black cats, Sara and Blue, have both found their forever homes! Each has started a new chapter with a loving family of their own.

We couldn’t be more excited for these sweet cats as they settle into their new lives filled with love, cozy naps, and plenty of attention.

Congratulations, Sara and Blue! We will miss you, but nothing makes us happier than seeing our animals find the homes they deserve. 🖤

Romeo finally met his Juliet ❤️

After all the ups and downs, this sweet boy has found the love story he deserved all along. Romeo officially went home today with his perfect match, and we could not be happier for him!

From being returned through no fault of his own to now finding a family who adores him, Romeo’s journey reminds us that sometimes the best endings just take a little longer to find.

Happy tails, Pippi and Charlotte! ❤️🐾

These two terrified Australian Shepherd girls came to us from an Amish breeder in Ohio, unsure of the world and frightened of almost everything around them. Watching them learn to trust, feel safe, and begin to enjoy life has been an incredible journey.

We are thrilled to share that Pippi and Charlotte have been adopted together by a wonderful Aussie-loving family! Even better, they now have a big Australian Shepherd brother to show them the ropes and help them continue building their confidence.

Keeping these bonded girls together was our dream, and thanks to their amazing new family, that dream has come true. We can’t wait to watch them blossom into the happy, loved dogs they were always meant to be.

Thank you to everyone who shared their story and supported their journey. Enjoy your new life, sweet girls. You are finally home. ❤️🏡🐾

Please share Phantom! He’s waited too long!💙

Just saying his name feels powerful—because this boy is nothing short of unforgettable.

4-5 years old. Saved from death row in Georgia, Phantom was just hours away from his life being cut short… not because he did anything wrong, but simply because there was no space left. And yet, here he is, alive, safe, and absolutely thriving. He loves going out to lunch and out for long walks!

With his striking blue eyes and regal, wolf-like beauty, Phantom turns heads everywhere he goes. But it’s not just his looks that make him special, it’s his heart. He is the definition of a good boy. Gentle, affectionate, and full of love, Phantom truly adores people. Everyone he meets becomes his friend, and he soaks up attention like he’s been waiting his whole life for it.

He carries himself with this quiet confidence and grace… like he knows he was meant for something more than the fate he almost faced.

Phantom would do best in a home without cats, as he does have a strong instinct to chase them. He does get along with other dogs. But when it comes to humans? He’s all love, all loyalty, all in.

Now all he needs is someone to see what we see…
