DAY ZERO. REMI’S REBIRTH DAY! 🧡 I think this might be the most feel-good update I’ll ever get to share.
Remi had SUCH a wonderful day today. From the moment he woke up, everyone made sure he knew just how special today was.

His nurses went above and beyond to make his transplant day unforgettable. They played with him, sang with him, and even asked him to put on a little concert with the new karaoke machine! Everyone who came through his door wished him a happy rebirthday, and his room was filled with so much love and happiness. All of his favorite people from his different therapy teams stopped by to celebrate, too! Massage therapy, music therapy, occupational therapy, and Child Life, who even made him a special Happy Transplant Day poster!🥹

We also got to move into a bigger room today, so of course we had to decorate it for his special day!
Before his stem cells were hung, we celebrated with a rebirthday cake. And in true Remi fashion, after spending the entire day having the time of his life, he fell asleep RIGHT before his transplant started.

And just like that, his new cells are in! His infusion is officially complete and his team is continuing to monitor him closely, checking vitals every 30 minutes to make sure he remains stable.

We shared a slice of cake with the other BMT families on the floor, and it was so nice being able to see everyone, some for the first time🥹🤍

I don’t think I could ever put into words what today has meant to me. After everything this little boy has endured, seeing him spend such a monumental day laughing, singing, playing, and being surrounded by people who love him was everything I could have hoped for. Today wasn’t filled with fear. It was filled with happiness, celebration, and SO much hope.

There are still so many hurdles ahead of us. We know the hardest days may still be coming, and we have a long road to recovery. But today, we celebrated how far he’s come and the beautiful new beginning we’ve been working so hard to reach. To every single person who made today so special for my little boy, thank you. You gave us memories I’ll hold onto for the rest of my life.

Happy Rebirthday, my sweet baby. 🧡 Today, we planted the seeds of a brand-new beginning. Now, we wait for them to take root, grow, and flourish into the beautiful life that lies ahead of you..
We’ve been Rooting for Remi all along, but today, those words hold a whole new meaning.

UPDATE AT END

Payton’s procedure went wonderfully! 🧡 She’s been pretty much knocked out all morning. The headaches, nausea, and exhaustion have hit her pretty hard, and she’s been getting fluids to help.

The good news is everything went well, and we got what we needed! The process was much quicker than we expected, and her sample has been sent to OSU so they can make sure everything looks good and it’s enough for Remi.

I’m so proud of my sister for doing this for him. She never hesitated, and now we’re one step closer. 🧡

UPDATE

Payton donated 10 million cells, doubling the goal of 5 million! Half will be used for Remi’s transplant, and the other half will be frozen. 🧡 They’re removing her central line now, and we are so grateful everything went well. She’s been through a lot today, but she did it for her boy. 🧡

A little update on Payton! 🧡 She got her central line placed and is officially starting apheresis! For anyone who doesn’t know, this is the process of collecting the stem cells that will be used for Remi’s transplant.

She’s not feeling the greatest right now, but she’s stable, and we’re taking it one step at a time. We’re so proud of her and how she didn’t hesitate for a second to do this for her boy. 🧡 One step closer to Remi’s rebirth day!

Day -2. Remi had a WONDERFUL day today! He was so happy, running around, playing, and full of energy!

Everyone who came into his room today was in for a treat. I think we were the loudest room. Whether it was physical therapy, massage therapy, or just stopping in to check on him, nobody was leaving without at least 30 minutes of playtime.

It makes my heart so happy seeing him be his silly, energetic little self despite everything his body has been through. We are soaking up every bit of these good days. 🥹

Remi’s blood cultures from last night are negative! We are praying for 2 more days of negative culture sets.

Tonight, I was officially admitted to prepare for my stem cell donation! I’ll be receiving an extra dose of Neupogen to help stimulate and release more stem cells for collection. I’ll be sleeping in my own hospital room tonight, away from Remi, but they put us right next door to each other🥺

My sister has me in an absolute puddle of tears. 😭 I’ve never thought twice about doing whatever it takes to give my little boy the best chance at life. Being able to give him a piece of me is the greatest privilege I could ever ask for. Tomorrow is a big day for me, and we’re one step closer to transplant day. Please keep us both in your prayers🤍

“Today, my sister officially gets admitted to begin the next step in becoming Remi’s stem cell donor. Tomorrow morning, she’ll undergo her procedure, and I don’t think I could be any prouder of her. 💛

I think what gets me the most about all of this is that Payton never even hesitated. She didn’t balk, she didn’t have to think twice, and none of us were surprised. We all knew it was going to be her. Of course it was going to be her. Because that’s her baby, and she was going to do whatever she could to give him the best chance at getting better.

What she’s doing is so incredibly selfless, and even though I know she’d probably tell you it’s just what any mom would do, that doesn’t make it any less incredible. Tomorrow, she’ll have a central line placed in her neck, and she’ll carry a scar from this experience for the rest of her life. A scar she’ll always be able to look at and remember what she did for her son. She gave him a chance, and she never even thought twice about it.

I’m so grateful that this is an option for Remi, and I’m holding onto so much hope for what’s ahead. There’s still a long road in front of him, and I know there are scary days ahead, but this is another step toward giving him the best possible chance.

Please keep Payton in your thoughts tomorrow as she goes through her procedure, and keep both her and Remi in your thoughts as we get closer to transplant day.

Day -3: Another wonderful day for this sweet boy!!

Remi has been doing SO well today! His energy has been incredible, and I don’t think he’s stopped talking all day.
He did sneak in a little midday nap to recharge, but otherwise, he’s been his happy, chatty little self. It makes my heart so happy to see him feeling this good.

Unfortunately, his port blood culture came back positive for staph once again. His team has given him antibiotics and is keeping a close eye on everything. There are no plans going forward. They will continue daily cultures until they have 3 negative sets.

His ANC has also officially reached 0, which is what we want before his transplant. He is now severely neutropenic. He has started Levaquin, an antibiotic used to help protect him from bacterial infections while his immune system is so vulnerable.
On my end, the bone pain from my donor injections started last night and has continued throughout today.

Despite everything Remi’s little body is going through, he continues to amaze me. We’re celebrating another good day, praying for clear cultures, and hoping he continues feeling this wonderful!

Day -4: Remi’s last fever was at 6 AM, reaching 101. Since then, his temperature, blood pressure, and oxygen levels have all remained normal!

He’s had SO much energy, has been in the sweetest mood, and is back to his playful, happy self! His appetite is still small, but he nibbled on three breakfasts and a little bit of lunch and dinner. He’s also back to using the potty on his own!

We did learn that his port blood culture from last night came back positive for Staph bacteria. His PICC culture was negative, and his team is repeating cultures from all three access points to investigate further. We’re praying for three negative sets!!

He also completed his second dose of rATG without any reactions! And I completed my second round of donor injections without any symptoms, either. This morning, we manifested an easy, peaceful day for both of us, and that’s exactly what we got. After everything yesterday brought, we needed this more than anything. We know there are difficult days ahead, but today gave us so much to be thankful for.

Today was a GOOD day, and my heart is so full. Thank you for all the love and prayers. Please keep them coming!

UPDATE 1:30AM
Remi’s numbers are improving! His blood pressure is now 92/48, oxygen is 97%, and his temperature is back down to 98.8!

His team has been checking his vitals every 15 minutes, and he’ll remain connected to his monitors, and fluids, throughout the night.

We are so relieved to see improvement... After his push-pull, he sat up and asked where I was. He is snuggled in bed watching a movie🤍

Thank you all for the prayers. And please keep them coming as we hope for a peaceful and stable night.

Remi’s temperature has spiked to 102.3°F, and his blood pressure is currently 79/34. His oxygen saturation is 96%.

His team is monitoring him very closely and has taken blood cultures. While these could individually be reactions to rATG, his symptoms are also concerning for sepsis.

Due to his low blood pressure, his team is now giving him IV fluid bolus using push pull to get fluids into his body quickly and help stabilize his blood pressure.

It’s been an incredibly difficult day for my boy, and tonight has become even scarier. Nothing truly prepares you for watching your child go through this…

PLEASE keep Remi in your thoughts and prayers tonight!!! We are praying for answers, stability, and some much-needed relief for his little body. We also pray for his incredible treatment team, that they are guided with wisdom, clarity, and steady hands as they work to keep our sweet boy safe
