Rooting for Remi

Remi’s ANC unexpectedly took a significant drop this week. Along with that, his white blood cell count and hemoglobin also dropped.

Because of his low immunity, his oncology team has decided to pause his oral chemotherapy until his ANC recovers to a safe level. While we always celebrate when treatment can continue, sometimes the safest thing for his little body is to let it rest.

As much as it breaks our hearts, Remi will also not be able to attend this weekend’s 5K in his honor. With his immune system so low, it’s simply not safe for him to be around a large crowd.
Thank you for loving him so fiercely and for understanding that keeping him healthy has to come first.

Please continue to cheer him on from afar this weekend. We can’t wait for the day his immune system is strong enough that these decisions aren’t part of our everyday life.
We are hoping his counts recover quickly so we can get him safely back on his treatment routine.

We are so incredibly grateful for this surprise.

When you spend so much time focused on appointments, medications, labs, and treatment, moments like this mean more than words can explain. Seeing Remi’s smile when he got his new bike was priceless.

Thank you to The Right Direction Youth Development Program for thinking of our sweet boy and making him feel so special. We can’t wait to make memories on this bike all summer long

Kat and everyone at the Spoke Life Cycles shop in Maumee were such angels. They made our visit so fun, and even let Remi test out his new ride before bringing it home!

We met Remi a few weeks ago at the LLS/Blood Cancer United Visionaries of the Year Grand Finale, and his infectious smile and inspiring story made a lasting impression on us!

After the event, we connected with Remi’s mom to see if we could surprise him with a new bike. We learned that he’ll be celebrating his 4th birthday in July and that he loves being outside, so we knew it was the perfect gift!!

We were thrilled to surprise him with an early birthday present and hope that he has an epic summer filled with more smiles, adventures, and plenty of miles on his new bike!

One year ago today, our world changed forever.

On June 18, 2025, what started as concern over bruises and petechiae turned into every parent’s worst nightmare. Within hours, Remi was diagnosed with leukemia.

Nothing could have prepared us for what came next.
The hospital stays
The procedures
The chemotherapy
The transfusions
The fevers
The sleepless nights
The uncertainty

Over the last year, Remi has endured more than most people will face in a lifetime. He has spent countless days in the hospital, undergone procedures, received chemotherapy, blood and platelet transfusions, and taken medications that have challenged his little body in ways no child should ever have to experience.

But through it all, Remi has remained Remi
He still finds reasons to laugh.
He still loves movies, singing and dancing, sports, and being outside.
He still lights up every room he walks into.

There were days we weren’t sure how we would make it through the next hour, let alone the next year. There were moments filled with fear, heartbreak, exhaustion, and tears.

But there was also hope.

Hope carried by family, friends, supporters, and complete strangers who chose to stand beside us when we needed it most.

Today doesn’t mark the end of treatment.
We’re still fighting.
We’re still making clinic trips
We’re still navigating chemotherapy
We’re still living with the reality that childhood cancer doesn’t simply disappear after remission

But today marks something important.
One full year.
One year of courage
One year of resilience
One year of showing the world what true strength looks like

A year ago, I would have given anything to know we’d be standing here today
And today, I am endlessly grateful that we are.

Thank you to everyone who has prayed for Remi, donated, shared his story, sent cards, dropped off meals, collected pop tabs, purchased shirts, attended fundraisers, and loved our family through the hardest year of our lives.

Most importantly, thank you to this sweet boy.
Remi, you are the strongest person I know

Tomorrow marks one year since Remi’s leukemia diagnosis.

I’ve spent the last few days looking back through photos, videos, hospital notes, and memories from the past year. Some of them are hard to revisit, some of them make me smile. All of them remind me just how far we’ve come.

One year ago, I had no idea what was ahead of us.
I couldn’t have imagined the hospital stays, procedures, chemotherapy, road trips, sleepless nights, tears, victories, setbacks, and milestones that would fill the next 365 days.
Through it all, Remi has remained exactly who he is. Brave, resilient, funny, stubborn, loving, and full of life.

Tomorrow I’ll share more about our journey and what this past year has meant to our family. Tonight I’ll be holding my little boy a little tighter and feeling incredibly grateful that we’re here, and that we’re smiling again ☀️🤍

This morning, Nationwide Children’s shared Remi’s story, and I honestly don’t have the words.

One year ago, our world changed overnight when Remi was diagnosed with t-cell leukemia. Since then, NCH has become so much more than a hospital to us. It’s where Remi has grown, learned, laughed, danced, reached milestones, and been loved by some of the most incredible people we’ve ever met.

Seeing this journey put into words is emotional because it reminds me just how far Remi has come. Through every admission, procedure, clinic visit, transfusion, and hard day, he has continued to be the happiest little boy.
Thank you to everyone at Nationwide Children’s for loving him like your own & for helping us navigate the hardest season of our lives.

And thank you to every person who has supported, prayed for, donated to, encouraged, and Rooted for Remi along the way. We wouldn’t be here without you

Meet Remi!

When two-year-old Remi was diagnosed with T-cell leukemia in June 2025, his family’s world changed overnight.

"What started as little symptoms we couldn’t explain, quickly turned into the scariest moment of our lives,” shares Remi’s mom.

When Remi became critically ill, he was transferred to Nationwide Children’s, beginning his chemotherapy journey. Between hospital admissions, clinic visits and procedures, Nationwide Children’s has become a second home to them.

“Very quickly it started to feel like family,” Remi’s mom shares, "Nationwide Children’s gave us more than medical care. They gave us hope during our darkest moments, joy in the middle of hardship and people who genuinely walk beside families through unimaginable circumstances.”

In many ways, Remi is growing up here at Nationwide Children's. He even reached potty-training milestones during treatment! And while he loves gardening, swimming and animals, nothing lights Remi up quite like music. Every staff member knows how much he loves to sing and dance!

Today, Remi’s family is focused on making life as normal and magical as possible.

“Right now, our biggest goal is simply giving Remi the happiest and fullest childhood possible while he continues treatment. We look forward to the day cancer is just part of our story instead of our everyday life.”

Two months
That’s all the time between the first photo and the last.

When you’re living through childhood cancer, progress can feel slow. Day by day, it’s hard to notice the changes. But looking back through these photos, it’s incredible to see how much Remi’s hair has grown in such a short time.

What started as soft little sprouts has turned into dark, thick hair that finally needs conditioner again.
It’s such a simple thing, but after chemotherapy took so much, watching his hair come back feels like getting a little piece of our boy back too.

Every photo here tells a story. Not just of hair growth, but of healing, resilience, and a little boy who continues to amaze us every single day.

Pop Tab Update!♻️
We originally planned to wait until August to make our first pop tab drop-off to Ronald McDonald House, but thanks to all of you, we simply ran out of room!
The amount of tabs collected so far completely filled the back hatch of our car, so we made our first delivery early.

To everyone who has been saving tabs, setting collection containers out at businesses, bringing them to events, and spreading the word, THANK YOU!! Every tab represents love and support for families navigating childhood illness, and we are so grateful

We ARE still collecting!!
This was only the first drop-off, and we’ll be making another delivery in August. If you’ve been collecting tabs, please keep saving them! If you’d like to donate what you’ve collected so far, feel free to message me and I’ll happily arrange a pickup.

What started as a simple idea has turned into something so much bigger than we imagined, and that’s because of our amazing community.
