Our scouts and leaders spent the weekend at McLean County Parks at Comlara Park/Evergreen Lake and enjoyed boating, swimming and fishing!

We had gourmet Dutch oven Mac and cheese, quesadilla pizzas, and roasted Uncrustables over the campfire.

We learned that ALDI USA pancake mix does not come bagged in the box, and when our dry food Coleman U.S.A. cooler got water inside after a midnight rain storm, we had to pivot our breakfast to muffins for Sunday. 🤷‍♀️

Last night at our troop meeting, the scouts learned about orienteering. They measured pace count, learned how to use a compass, and went over a couple of maps with our Junior Assistant Scoutmaster, Maverick.

The map they are looking at is from his trip to Northern Tier High Adventure in 2023.

We also started putting ideas on the calendar for the next year. Planning and preparation is the first step!

A few of our scouts worked on fire building skills tonight. When we had finished lighting fires, we started the Tenderfoot Rank fitness requirements.
Walk/run 1 mile- time
Pushups- how many in 60 seconds
Sit ups- how many in 60 seconds
Sit and reach- how far can you stretch

We will check these again after 30 days of practice and mark any improvement.

Fitness requirements are included in the Tenderfoot rank to introduce young Scouts to healthy, lifelong habits, build endurance for outdoor activities, and teach goal-setting, focusing on personal improvement rather than absolute strength.

This weekend our Troop camped at Humiston Woods Nature Center and worked on fire building. The Scouts made foil dinners over the fire, and then finished Saturday night with a Flag retirement ceremony.

A flag retirement ceremony is held to respectfully dispose of U.S. flags that are faded, torn, or otherwise "unserviceable," ensuring they are not treated with disrespect. Mandated by the U.S. Flag Code and often performed by veterans or scouting groups, this solemn, official ceremony usually involves burning, honoring the flag's service and the nation's ideals.
