Mental health is just as important as physical safety in the workplace. Stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use disorders, and other mental health challenges can affect anyone—regardless of their job title, experience, or background.

Knowing the symptoms, recognizing the warning signs, and supporting one another can make a life-changing difference. A simple conversation, a kind word, or checking in on a co-worker may be exactly what someone needs during a difficult time.

Remember: not every injury is visible. Be patient. Be understanding. Be compassionate. You never truly know what someone else may be carrying behind the scenes.

Let’s continue building workplaces where people feel safe not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is available. Call or text 988 anytime for free, confidential support.

Workplace tragedies like this are far too common, particularly among young workers and those new to an industry who are still learning their trade. It is one of the many reasons we founded Jacob’s Ladder Foundation for Safety Awareness & Training.

Our mission is to promote a stronger culture of safety through education, awareness, advocacy, and meaningful training initiatives focused on high-risk industries. We believe that by working together—through collaboration, community engagement, and the support of our partners and followers—we can help prevent future tragedies and ensure that workers have the knowledge and resources needed to return home safely at the end of the day.

Today, our hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with the family, friends, and coworkers affected by this devastating loss.

🚨 May Safety Focus: Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) Saves Lives 🚨

Did you know that Control of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) – OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.147 ranked as the 4th most cited OSHA violation in fiscal year 2025?

This tells us one thing: serious hazards are still being overlooked in workplaces every day.

Most violations come down to a few critical gaps:

🔧 Energy Control Procedures (29%)
Missing or incomplete written procedures for specific equipment, or failing to identify all energy sources.

🎓 Training & Communication (17%)
Employees not properly trained—whether they’re authorized (those performing service) or affected (those operating equipment).

🔍 Periodic Inspections (14%)
Annual LOTO program inspections not being completed or documented.

📋 Energy Control Program (10%)
Failure to establish a comprehensive, site-specific LOTO program.

⚠️ Application of Control (9%)
Breakdowns in the critical 6-step process:
Shutdown → Isolation → Lockout/Tagout → Stored Energy Release → Verification → Safe Work

💡 The Bottom Line:
LOTO is not just about compliance—it’s about preventing life-altering injuries and fatalities.

At Jacob’s Ladder Foundation for Safety Awareness & Training, we believe:
✔️ Know your hazards
✔️ Develop clear procedures
✔️ Train your people
✔️ Evaluate and improve continuously

Because at the end of the day, every worker deserves to go home safe.

On behalf of Jacob’s Ladder Foundation for Safety Awareness & Training, I had the privilege of serving as this year’s Keynote Speaker at the National Workers Memorial Day Ceremony in Oklahoma City.

Just two years ago, my wife, children, and I sat in that very same crowd—grieving the unimaginable loss of our son, Jacob.

This year, we stood not only in remembrance… but in purpose.

Being invited by OSHA and the Oklahoma Department of Labor to share our story and mission is something we will never take lightly. What began in heartbreak has grown into a calling—to stand beside other families, to raise awareness, and to fight for safer workplaces so no one else has to endure this kind of loss.

Jacob’s Ladder Foundation is here to make a difference. To advocate. To educate. And to protect the lives of hardworking men and women every single day.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support this mission. Together, we are turning tragedy into change.
