Here is a story by Sarah Cook about her handsome community cat, Oreo, who recently came in to visit us at the clinic to be fixed. 🐾
“Oreo is a big, beautiful, black and white community cat. He’s had a challenging life finding food and shelter all on his own out in the big, wide world. Call it fate or what you may, but earlier this year he finally found himself a stable food source. It was a location where I had been feeding a few other community cats. As I kept seeing him there regularly, I knew I needed to get him fixed. By getting him neutered, it greatly improved his life and health, helped cut down on unwanted animals in the area, and helped control the number of community cats out there. He has helped keep rodent population down where he lives and has plenty of space to roam and not bother anyone. So, one Wednesday night I carefully caught him in a humane trap that I covered with a soft cloth to help keep him calm. Oreo didn’t know where he was going or what was going on, but he felt care from every gentle hand that helped him that day and every spoken “what a beautiful boy you are!” After a day of rest and pampering with good food and water, he was able to return to his outdoor home. He was happy to be back where he felt comfortable and more like himself. He was back where he could help keep the rodent population down and be a warm friend to the other community cats around him. And knowing that there’s a group of humans looking out for him and his buddies, Oreo’s mind was eased. He knew he could finally relax and call this place home.”
