🌿 Project Green Schools Day at the Rhode Island State House 🌿

What an incredible day of youth leadership, environmental action, and civic engagement!

Thank you to Congressman Gabe Amo, Speaker Christopher Blazejewski, Stacy Custer, Representative Terri Cortvriend, and Jack & Susan Groh for helping inspire and empower the next generation of environmental leaders.

A special thank you to our presenting sponsor, Embolden Environmental, for making this memorable day possible.

Students explored solutions to plastic pollution through mock legislative sessions focused on microplastics, single-use plastics, black plastics, and artificial turf. A special thank you to the students of The Compass School for their powerful climate skit performance.

We were also honored to host Rhode Island’s first-ever induction ceremony into the National Green Schools Society—the only honor society for the environmental student. The ceremony was led by Joseph da Silva, PhD, of the Rhode Island Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, celebrating students whose leadership and service are helping create healthier schools and communities.

A highlight of the day was the presentation of the Project Green Schools Lifetime Achievement Award to Alex Edelmann. Presented by Congressman Amo and Project Green Schools, the award recognizes her extraordinary leadership and lasting contributions to environmental and experiential education.

Thank you to the students, educators, families, and partners who joined us as we celebrated student voice, environmental stewardship, and civic engagement.

While AI skills and green tasks are in demand, better jobs are not built on one skill alone.

A new ILO report shows that rounded skill bundles matter: cognitive, socio-emotional and manual skills often work best in combination.

Storm drains lead straight to waterways- there are no filters or treatment of whatever flows through the pipes. That's why you should never pour paint, pool chemicals, cleaners, or other household substances down the street or through the storm drain.

Instead, gather up toxic items you don't want in your cupboards, closets, basement, garage, and shed and bring them to the parking lot of Nymeo Field/Harry Grove Stadium TOMORROW, SATURDAY, MAY 9 between 8am and 12pm for Frederick County (MD) Division of Solid Waste and Recycling's FREE spring drop off event.

PLUS- Oil and latex paints are now accepted at this event!

Nature shapes childhood in powerful ways.

From tree-lined sidewalks to school gardens to nights under the stars, outdoor experiences help kids grow healthier, happier, and more connected to the world around them.

We also know that young people are closest to both the crisis and the answers.

That’s why we’re excited to partner with Sierra magazine to launch a national essay contest for youths. The contest, made possible by the generous support of Nocs Provisions, encourages young people to get outdoors and invites them to put pen to paper and tell a story about the experience. The winning essay will be published in the upcoming special edition of Sierra Seedlings for kids and families.
