Custer Road UMC Missions

Custer Road UMC Missions CRUMC Missions partners with our community through The Wheelhouse and beyond, building trusted relationships that center justice, dignity, and shared service.

Together, we grow in Christ by walking alongside one another with compassion and purpose. Custer Road Missions exists to embody Christโ€™s love through justice, compassion, and deep community collaboration. We believe mission is not charity, but relationshipโ€”rooted in equity, dignity, and mutual transformation. Our work focuses on local impact through strategic partnerships that address real needs i

n our neighborhoods. From feeding programs and housing support to school outreach and advocacy, we seek to empower people and dismantle barriers alongside themโ€”not for them. With more than 20 active mission partners, we offer year-round opportunities for individuals, families, and groups to engage meaningfully. Whether volunteering at The Wheelhouse, supporting food access, or joining in collective action, thereโ€™s a place for everyone to serve with purpose.

The Empty Nesters Sunday School class showed UP today!

These incredible folks assembled 120 snack bags to fuel kids at the Summer Lunch Program at Christie Elementary. 120 kids will open a bag this week and find something to munch on, thanks to a room full of empty nesters who clearly still know how to take care of people. Turns out an โ€œempty nestโ€ just means more room to fill with purpose.

Thank you, Empty Nesters, for bringing your energy, your hands, and your hearts. The kids at Christie Elementary are better fed because of you.

๐Ÿช‘ The inaugural Aldersgate Table met last week, and it did not disappoint.

Nearly 30 people gathered, shared a meal, and then pulled their chairs into a circle to wrestle with something that doesn't get enough airtime: social isolation among seniors in our community.

The conversation was curated by Janet and Barry with a simple but ambitious goal: don't just talk about the issue. Let it land. Feel the weight of it. And if possible, walk away with a real foothold toward action.

That's exactly what happened. ๐Ÿ’›

This is what it looks like when a community decides to show up for each other, not just with good intentions, but with presence, honesty, and a willingness to sit with hard things together.

We'll gather again in July to go deeper, and a date is coming soon.

We would love to have YOUR voice at the Table. ๐Ÿ™Œ

โ˜€๏ธ The Summer Lunch Program is officially underway, and the energy did not disappoint.

This week, children and adults came through the doors, fed and welcomed by an incredible crew of volunteers from Custer Road and YMSL. Every weekday, Plano ISD provides hot meals for kids who need them most, and through YOUR generous donations, we purchase daily adult meals too, because no one in the building goes hungry on our watch.

While meals are served, activity tables give families a chance to slow down together: make art, play a board game, or pick out a book to take home. Lunch here is more than a meal. It's a moment.

And just down the hall? Summer school is in session for kids who need a little extra support. Because of your generosity, we'll be treating those teachers to an appreciation meal this summer, and inviting their students outside whenever a sweets truck pulls up. Because unexpected joy belongs to everyone. Our love for our partner school doesn't stop when the school year does. ๐Ÿ’›

Then Friday happened.

Families picked up Weekend Bags packed with food to carry them through to Monday, because hunger doesn't take weekends off. And then an ice cream truck pulled up.

Kids, parents, and school staff poured outside. The parking lot filled with the kind of joy that doesn't need explanation. And for a moment, it felt exactly like what it's supposed to be: a community showing up for its neighbors. ๐Ÿฆ

This is what it looks like when a church chooses to love boldly and practice uncommon hospitality. Not just meeting needs, but making people feel seen, valued, and genuinely welcomed.

Three more weeks ahead. We're just getting started.
