Last Thursday, May 21st, APAPA was honored to join Monroe County’s beautiful AANHPI Heritage Month Celebration at the Monroe County Office Building, bringing our community together to recognize and celebrate Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.

We are especially grateful to Monroe County Executive Adam J. Bello, David Clarence Scott, Chief Diversity Officer and Director of the Department of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion, Bijaya Khadka, and the entire Monroe County team for your leadership, hospitality, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

A special thank you as well for the beautiful performance by Manita Dance, representing the rich cultural traditions and the fastest-growing minority population in America. The performance brought energy, pride, and cultural beauty to the celebration and made the evening even more memorable.

Shout out to Lily Lee and Mimi (APAA (Asian/Pacific Islander/American Association of Greater Rochester)for their dedication and continued service in preserving and documenting Rochester’s AAPI history. Their exhibit, highlighting the stories and contributions of the local AAPI community, will be displayed throughout May at the Monroe County Office Building. Thank you for helping preserve our history and inspire future generations.

It was a wonderful event that highlighted the strength, diversity, and contributions of the AANHPI community. Thank you for creating a space where our voices, traditions, and stories are recognized and celebrated.

We truly appreciate all your hard work and support!

APAPA Rochester Executive Board members have been actively engaged throughout Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, supporting programs that celebrate diversity and culture across our community.

Nancy Dimock participated as a panelist at the Town of Brighton’s Heritage Month celebration, bringing together residents and leaders for meaningful conversations about culture, identity, and community.

Thank you to Brighton Town Supervisor Bill Moehle and the Brighton Town Board for their continued leadership and support of the AAPI community. As Supervisor Moehle shared, “You just need to try the Lunar New Year Festival and Harvest Moon Fest.”

Together, we continue building stronger connections and uplifting our communities.

APAPA Rochester NY proudly joined fellow Western New York APAPA chapters at the 2026 NYS AAPI Summit in Albany for an inspiring week of leadership, advocacy, collaboration, and celebration.

We were honored to connect with outstanding leaders and advocates, including Senator John C. Liu Senator Senator Jeremy Cooney , Assemblywoman Grace Lee , Deputy Director for Asian American Affairs Sibu Nair , Commissioner Tai Shaw, and many others dedicated to uplifting AAPI communities across New York State.

From the Welcome Reception and workshop sessions to the “AI For All” Summit and keynote by Karan Brar, the Summit highlighted the importance of unity, representation, and investing in future generations.

We were also honored to attend Governor Kathy Hochul’s AAPI Heritage Month Reception at the Executive Mansion, celebrating the strength, diversity, and contributions of Asian Americans throughout New York. Governor Hochul also made history by establishing New York State’s first-ever AAPI Commission, an important step in elevating AAPI voices and representation across the state.

Thank you to all the organizers, volunteers, speakers, and community leaders who made this meaningful event possible. Western New York showed up strong, and together we will continue building opportunities, connections, and a stronger voice for our communities.

Together, we rise.
