Compassionate, Culturally Sensitive Support for Every Step of Your Breast Cancer Journey

Jeremy's story is a reminder that breast cancer doesn’t only affect women. Men can be overlooked in this space—but awareness can change that.

The Know Your Lemons App is designed for everybody and every BODY, helping men and women learn the signs of breast cancer and be guided in their self-exams. 🍋

Read Jeremy’s story and learn more about male breast cancer in our latest blog post. 💛 https://bit.ly/4tkehbU

We’ve arrived Bay Path University Women's Leadership Conference ready to connect. Our booth is set, our resources are here, and the coffee is strong—just the way we like to start meaningful conversations.

If you’re at the Women’s Leadership Conference today, I invite you to stop by. Let’s talk about what’s possible when breast cancer patients are matched with mentors who truly understand—people who share their story, their challenges, and their hopes.

This is why we show up: to make sure no one faces breast cancer alone, and everyone finds support that feels like home.

If you can’t make it, please pass this along to someone who knows a breast cancer patient looking for support that truly sees and honors who they are. Thank you to our sponsors, Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, Berkshire United Way, BeaconBank.

April’s shaping up to be a big month.

April 2, I’ll be at Bay Path University Women's Leadership Conference with 1,600 other women. I’m there to talk about something simple: breast cancer patients need mentors who actually get their lives. Not just the medical stuff—the identity stuff, the cultural stuff, the real stuff.

April 12, I’m getting honored at University at Albany & American Cancer Society’s Survivorship Dinner. Still wrapping my head around that. Two cancers, BRCA2, a lot of hard days. And now this.

Embrace & Empower exists for the people who get left out of the traditional support systems. BIPOC survivors, LGBTQ+ patients, people in rural areas, male survivors. If you’ve ever felt invisible during your cancer journey, this is for you.

We are honored to be recognized for the vision and early momentum behind Embrace & Empower.

This organization was created to address a critical gap in breast cancer support — particularly for individuals from historically underrepresented communities, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ individuals, and men.

We are currently building our mentorship training framework, establishing community partnerships, and developing the infrastructure necessary to launch a sustainable, culturally responsive peer support model.

This recognition affirms both the urgency of the need and the strength of the foundation we are putting in place.

As we prepare to launch our mentorship program, we are seeking aligned funders and sponsors who believe in investing early — not just in services, but in building them the right way.

If you are committed to advancing equitable survivorship support and helping scale a mission-driven model from the ground up, we welcome a conversation.

The groundwork is being laid thoughtfully. The vision is clear. And the impact is ahead.

Thank you Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation!

Local resident Natale Monroe is showing a way forward for BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ people and men navigating breast cancer. She's created a nonprofit that provides identity-affirming resources within traditional healthcare settings. A BTCF Equity Fund grant supports her pilot mentorship program.

2026 is here—and this is the year Embrace & Empower launches our founding mentorship program, thanks in part to Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, Berkshire Bank and others.

When I went through breast cancer treatment, I searched for a mentor who understood what it meant to be a Black woman navigating cancer while parenting, working, and trying to hold it all together. That mentor was hard to find.

So we built something different.

In 2026, Embrace & Empower is recruiting our first cohort of founding mentors—survivors, previvors, and caregivers ready to walk alongside others facing breast cancer. This program is intentionally centered on voices that are too often left out of traditional support spaces: BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, rural, and male.

Here’s what’s ahead this year:

• Recruiting and training founding mentors (Jan–May)
• Launching a podcast to elevate real survivor stories
• Building partnerships with healthcare and community organizations
• Officially opening our mentorship program (October)

If you’ve walked this path and want to help someone else feel less alone—or if you know someone who should—stay tuned. Mentor applications open soon.

This is just the beginning.

This past weekend, our Founder and Executive Director, Natale Monroe, represented Embrace & Empower at the Tigerlily Foundations’s BEACON Symposium in Washington, D.C.

As a VIP ANGEL Advocate, Natale joined survivors, healthcare professionals, and industry leaders in critical conversations on drug affordability, community navigation, and defending health equity.

We’re proud to be part of this national dialogue — helping ensure that mentorship, culturally responsive support, and survivor leadership remain central to the future of cancer care.

Thank you to Maimah Karmo and the Tigerlily Foundation for creating such a powerful platform for collaboration and action. Together, we’re working toward a future where no one faces breast cancer alone. 💗
