Join us and learn how to keep your family safe from toxic food packaging.

Chemicals linked to learning disabilities and cancer shouldn't be anywhere near our food. Yet many of the containers and wrappers surrounding our food are made with toxic chemicals, including phthalates, PFAS, and BPA, which can migrate into our food and our bodies.

Get tips on how to keep your family safe and what states are doing to protect families from harmful chemicals in food packaging.

Did you know chemicals in plastics can harm children’s brain health?

Project TENDR's new scientific consensus statement on how chemicals in plastics and microplastics are harming children's brains is now published in the June issue of Environment International. It says:

1. Action is urgently needed to safeguard children’s developing brains from microplastics and plastic-related chemicals.
2. Neurotoxic chemicals in plastics are contributing to children's problems with learning, attention, and behavior.
3. One in 6 children in the U.S. are now diagnosed with developmental conditions including ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities.
4. Microplastics can enter cells and disrupt placental and metabolic functions that impact fetal growth and brain growth.

There are solutions. Read our paper: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0160412026002424

As we approach The Home Depot's annual shareholder meeting on May 21, frontline leaders from across the country are calling on The Home Depot to lead the industry away from toxic PVC plastic.

Many of the advocates pictured live with the daily consequences of vinyl production and disposal, from polluted air and water in their communities to serious illnesses like cancer that may be linked to chemical exposure.

Safer alternatives to PVC already exist. To protect the health of these frontline communities, The Home Depot must restrict PVC in its packaging and lead the industry toward safer alternatives!

Healthy schools and healthy learning start with protecting children's brain health.

Lead-based paint is still the most common way children are lead poisoned. Lead can also be in the soil, water, and our food (in spices, cinnamon, even in infant formula). Test your child at 12 and 24 months and at other times if you feel your child may of been exposed to lead. Week

Parents and educators shop year-round for school supplies. Here are some tips for safer, less toxic school supplies:

- Look for PVC-Free, BPA-Free, Phthalate-Free and Fragrance-Free Supplies
- Buy water-based markers, paints and glues.
- Purchase cloth, canvas or nylon lunch boxes, backpacks and umbrellas. Avoid products that have PCV or vinyl.
- Look for a canvas pencil holder instead of plastic one.
- Ask your school or childcare to avoid disinfecting wipes which often have harmful chemicals in them. Children should also avoid using wipes. See below for a partner resource on concerns with disinfecting wipes.
- Try to avoid anything with chlorine. Look for recycled paper products or those marked chlorine-free

Below you can see some canvas pencil pouches and some plastic ones. Avoid the plastic when you can.
