♻️ A Project Built by Scouts, Supported by a Community, and Dedicated with Love ❤️
Cub Scout Pack 213 is proud to celebrate the successful completion of our Trex® Beyond the Bag Recycling Challenge!
What began as a simple recycling effort quickly became a community-wide project. Our Scouts joined the Trex Beyond the Bag program and, with the help of countless community members, collected and recycled hundreds of pounds of plastic film that otherwise would have ended up in a landfill.
This achievement would not have been possible without the incredible support of so many people and organizations. A special thank you to Luke Kowalski and Pro Trucks for serving as our collection site and helping us gather materials throughout the project. Thank you to the residents of Murrysville, Export, and surrounding communities who enthusiastically contributed to our collection efforts. We are also grateful to Westmoreland Cleanways for accommodating us after hours as we delivered and processed our collected materials.
After reaching our goal, our Scouts worked together to sort, bag, weigh, and deliver the plastic for recycling. As a reward for their hard work and dedication to environmental stewardship, Trex Company provided Pack 213 with a beautiful recycled-material bench.
Rather than keeping the bench for ourselves, Pack 213 chose to donate it back to the community by placing it at Franklin Regional Intermediate School, recognizing the school’s ongoing commitment to our children and community.
The bench now stands as a memorial to Mrs. Barbara Gallucci, a beloved educator, mentor, and friend. Mrs. Gallucci dedicated more than two decades to Franklin Regional, serving as a teacher, department head, curriculum supervisor, club sponsor, and role model to countless students. She was known not only for her commitment to education but also for her kindness, faith, and genuine care for those around her. We were honored to have members of the Gallucci family present for the dedication ceremony as we celebrated her lasting legacy.
Pack 213 would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to:
• Dr. Buffone and Franklin Regional Intermediate School for their support and partnership.
• JA Rutter Co. for generously donating the mulch used to complete the project.
• Our Scouts, parents, and leaders whose hard work, dedication, and service made this project possible.
This bench represents far more than recycled plastic. It represents service, stewardship, teamwork, community partnership, and a lasting tribute to a remarkable educator whose influence will continue to inspire future generations.
Thank you to everyone who helped make this project a success!
