A sincere thank you to ABC Automotive for their continued support. Your team has faithfully shown up to help with our packings many, may tomesn, and that consistency strengthens this mission more than words can express.

We’re also grateful to the North Laurel Dance Team, who sent volunteers to help pack before heading to the 13th Region Boys Basketball Championship game. That speaks volumes about the character of these young women and those who lead them.

Because of people like you, 966 children won’t have to worry about nutrition this weekend. Thank you for showing up and making a real difference.

A heartfelt thank you to:

Today, you helped provide food for two weeks for 965 children in the Laurel County School System who are facing food insecurity.

You stepped up. You filled a gap that many will never see. That kind of compassion doesn’t just carry a child through the weekend, it shapes confidence, feels like stability, and gives hope for the future.

Thank you for being the hands that packed, the hearts that cared, and the force behind this mission.

🌟 SPOTLIGHT ON TODAY’S VOLUNTEERS 🌟

💥 Together, you packed 1,980 bags:

🥫 Chef Boyardee Lasagnas
🧀 Chef Boyardee Mac & Cheese
🍝 Chef Boyardee Spaghetti & Meatballs
🥛 cartons of Milk
🥣 boxes of Cornflakes
🍜 Beef Ramen
🍜 Chicken Ramen
🥩 Slim Jims
🍫 Rice Krispie Treats
🥔 cans of Pringles

📊 The numbers are impressive…
💔 but the meaning behind it is much more.

💜The numbers mean children who quietly dread Fridays, because school meals end, won’t have to wonder if they’ll eat.
💜The numbers mean kids who don’t complain, who don’t ask, who learned way too early how to be “fine,” will open a backpack and feel relief instead of panic.
💜The numbers mean fewer empty stomachs, fewer long nights, fewer parents forced to choose which child eats first.

You didn’t just pack food. You packed dignity, comfort, and the powerful message that someone cares.

From the bottom of hearts you may never meet, THANK YOU.

Thank you to the incredible Rhythm Dance Studio of London, KY, NLHS Jaguar Dance team members, and Laurel County Central Office staff for coming together tonight to pack 2,877 bags for our students.

Your time, teamwork, and generosity, assembled these bags filled with non-perishable foods for distribution over the next three weekends to students who face food insecurity when school is not in session. These meals will serve as supplements, helping ensure children have nourishment, comfort, and support when it is otherwise unavailable.

Your willingness to show up and serve speaks volumes about the heart of our community. What may seem like a simple act of packing bags is truly an act of love, dignity, and hope for at least 959 Laurel County families.

Thank you for making a real difference one bag, one weekend, and one child at a time.

About The Backpack Program of Laurel County

An estimated 25 – 30% of all school-age children in Laurel County are going hungry from the time they leave school on Friday until they return to school the following Monday. For many children, a school lunch is their primary source of nutrition. The Backpack Program aims to meet the needs of these hungry children throughout the county.

When The Backpack Program (formerly The Backpack Club) first began in 2004, it was initially providing 65 children with weekly food bags. Currently, there are over 1,000 children being served in every elementary, middle and high school in Laurel county.

The Backpack Program relies on donors and volunteers to fulfill our program’s mission. We have partnered with God’s Pantry Food Bank, which serves both as a donor for many of the food items we provide, as well as a location where our volunteers work to assemble bags each week. Needy children are identified by the Family Resource Centers at each Laurel County school and ensures that weekly bag of non-perishable food is discreetly placed in these children’s backpacks every Friday before they leave for the day.
