On every surgery day, one team member is dedicated to our recovering patients: keeping them warm, watching them closely, timing extubation, managing pain, and keeping recovery as calm and Fear Free as possible.

High volume doesn’t mean less attention.

People sometimes arrive with cats loose in their car or in a carrier that is falling apart. During transport, we need a hard-sided carrier to keep the cat safe.

If you have an old pet/cat carrier, please consider donating them for people who don’t have a way to get their cats to our clinic!

Beginning late September, we will launch our 2026 Annual Shindig Silent Auction and Fundraiser. Typically, we only offer our auction online. However, this year, we will also hold an in-person event where we will feature select items for attendees to see in person!

Support us by bidding online or join the AFC team at Cellarmaker Brewery in Berkeley, CA on October 3rd from 4PM-6PM.

Join us for an evening of bingo and mingling with fellow animal lovers. Ticket sales are now live. Each ticket includes entry, a drink ticket, and snacks. We hope to see you there!

Yoga mats are one of our secret weapons to a Fear Free visit. They are used to line crates/runs to prevent dogs and cats from slipping. Every mat helps our patients feel safer, steadier, and less stressed during vet visits.

If you have an extra yoga mat lying around, please consider donating it to our clinic!

When SugarCube came to us in June, we weren't sure she was going to survive.

She arrived critically ill from a pyometra. She was weak, dehydrated, and surgery was her only chance. Even afterward, she remained critically ill and needed several more days of supportive care before she was finally well enough to go home.

A few days later, her owner sent us this update:
"She's doing pretty good. She's eating and I took her outside last night and she walked for a bit. Used the restroom and I'm proud."

Then her owner sent us a video of SugarCube walking down the sidewalk. Those are the updates we love to get.

We go through an astonishing amount of laundry detergent, disinfectant, paper towels, and other cleaning supplies to keep the clinic running.

Last week, Esther surprised us with a donation that will keep our shelves stocked for quite a while.

Thank you, Esther, for always thinking of us and for supporting the work we do every day. We truly appreciate your generosity.

Eight (8) weeks ago, our students from our High-School Summer Immersion program, Dylan and Emely, had never been inside a high-volume surgery clinic.

Since then, they've had a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to keep one running: from wrapping instrument packs and helping with cleaning and sterilization to observing surgery and patient recoveries.

With two weeks still to go, we're looking forward to seeing what the rest of their summer brings.
