FOUND A STRAY DOG OR CAT? HERE'S WHAT TO DO! 🐾
A stray animal is not necessarily a homeless animal! ❤️
At Happy Endings Animal Rescue (HEAR), we frequently receive calls from caring community members who have found a stray dog or cat. We appreciate everyone looking out for animals in need, but it's important to remember that a wandering animal may be someone's beloved pet, with a family desperately searching for them.
🐕 If you find a stray animal within town limits:
Contact your town's Animal Control Officer.
🐈 If you find a stray animal outside town limits in Sublette County:
Contact the Sublette County Sheriff's Office and ask for the Animal Control Officer.
🏡 Why can't HEAR accept stray animals directly?
HEAR is a volunteer-run rescue, not an animal control facility. We cannot assume an animal is abandoned simply because it is wandering. Stray animals need to be reported to the appropriate authorities so their owners have an opportunity to find and reclaim them.
What can YOU do to help?
- Report the animal to the appropriate Animal Control Officer.
- Check for identification tags if it's safe to do so.
- Share photos and information on local lost-and-found pet pages.
- Remember that a lost pet may have a loving family searching for it!
Once the appropriate animal control procedures have been followed, HEAR may be able to assist with animals needing rescue, depending on available space and resources.
