Rescue Road We are a 501(c)3 located in Central Arkansas. We need short term fosters only - no local adoptions! Who is Rescue Road? Why does Rescue Road only send dogs North?

Our mission is to redirect happy, healthy, adoptable dogs in high-kill shelters into other networks to find their forever families. Through our virtual team of volunteers and foster families in Arkansas, we send dogs North. The American Veterinary Medical Association recently published its U.S. Pet Ownership & Demographics Sourcebook. Arkansas ranks #1 in dog ownership (http://www.arkansasbusiness.com/article/90274/gone-to-the-dogs). Sounds good on the surface, but what does it really mean? Our shelters are full. Dogs are put down EVERY DAY throughout the state because there are too many dogs and not enough homes. Guess which states ranked the lowest? That's right, Northern states! This creates a perfect partnership since this is where our partner rescues reside. There are plenty of families just waiting to adopt dogs sent through our program. So, can I adopt one of your dogs? No. Once a dog is selected by our rescue partner in the North, the commitment is made for us to deliver that happy, healthy animal to them. They start networking and coordinating the minute we have pulled them. Families who are already approved adopters may be expecting that particular dog. Plus, up North they have so many more families than available dogs. There are just too many dogs and not enough homes down here. It’s best to think of it as once a dog is pulled, it is safe and is just waiting for its turn to catch a ride home. The ones left behind in the shelter, however, are not. That’s why fostering is so important. By pulling one dog, this frees up kennel space. This buys us a little more time to find a foster for the next dog. How can I help? Foster. We are always looking for foster families near our Central and Delta region partner shelters. The commitment is typically 2-6 weeks. We cover all vetting expenses. After multiple nights at two different emergency clinics he is home and slowly getting his energy back- we are so thrilled he is better and that so far his siblings are showing no signs. Karmel. Male. 12 weeks old. 🐾

Karmel was pulled from the Pine Bluff Animal Shelter about seven days ago after receiving three combination vaccines.

Unfortunately, the shelter is one of those places where puppies are incredibly vulnerable to illness, even when we do our best to protect them and make sure they receive the necessary vaccines. This is why completing the full vaccine series for your puppies is so important!

Karmel was diagnosed with parvo 48 hours ago. He has already undergone 24 hours of hospitalization at the emergency clinic and will be staying there tonight.

Just this morning, 10/8, he had a feeding tube placed so that the veterinary team can provide him with the nourishment he needs and hopefully help ensure that his GI system continues to function normally.

Karmel has four other siblings. All of them received a very expensive monoclonal antibody injection for parvovirus in hopes that they will not develop the virus and, if they do, that their bodies will be better equipped to fight it.

Karmel also received the monoclonal antibody, but unfortunately, he still requires intensive supportive care.

Between the injections for all five puppies and our current estimate from the emergency clinic, we have already spent approximately $3,000.

We are asking for your help to continue giving Karmel the care he desperately needs. Every donation, no matter how small, will help us continue fighting for this sweet boy. ❤️

Don't forget to give $5+ when paying your property taxes!

Since 2017, the county has collected and directed the donated funds to Arkansans for Animals (AFA) in south Little Rock, and to Pulaski County veterinarians who participate in the county's spay & neuter voucher program. Since inception, the additional funds have resulted in over 25,000 additional pets having access to this low-cost spay and neuter effort. This year's funds are depleted, so we need to remember to give again!
