The GFWC/Pikeville Woman's Club to raise awarenes of April being Child Abuse Prevention month placed a display of pinwheels at Judi's Place For Kids. The club has been long active supporter of women and children in our community. Our 50 year member, Nancy Forsyth will be honored for her work as Kentucky highway marker chair for Pike County at the Colonel Dils marker dedication Friday, Sept 22nd, 4 PM. The ceremony will be held on Main St near BB&T with a reception to follow at the Garfield House.

On August 9th Leah Hampton, PWC Pop Tab Chairman pictured here with Ronald McDonald House House Manager Volunteer Karen Brock, delivered 130 lbs of pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House of the Bluegrass in Lexington. Thanks to the help of all those who saved their tabs for such of worthy cause. We continue to support the Ronald McDonald House and appreciate your help. Keep up the great work!!

On March 28th the Pikeville Woman's Club held their monthly meeting along with collecting blankets and play dough for Judi's Place For Kids. This day was made special due to First Lady Glenna Bevin was also being honored with a ceremony in Frankfort unveiling her miniature porcelain First Lady Doll.
The Pikeville Woman's Club was honored to able to hear a history of the First Lady Dolls and have former First Lady Judi Patton so graciously share with the club her experience and see firsthand her porcelain First Lady Dolls.
While she served as First Lady of Kentucky with her husband, Governor Paul Patton for two terms, only one First Lady Doll is displayed in Frankfort.
When dressing the First Lady Dolls, a piece of the material of the gowns that was worn during the inaugural ball is used, the gown for the miniature that is displayed for former First Lady Mrs. Patton was made by the late Dr. Mary Wiss MD and the late May Green and sponsored by the Pikeville Woman's Club, the Pikeville Junior Woman's Club and the Louisa Woman's Club.
Alice Kendrick served as the GFWC/KY State President during this time and had the honor of presenting the First Lady Porcelain Dolls to Former First Lady Patton on both occasion. Former State President Kendrick also had the honor of presenting the First Lady Doll to Former First Lady Glenna Fletcher.

It is with very heavy hearts we must announce the passing of Mary Elizabeth Preston, GFWC International Past President from 1978-1980, on Saturday, February 25, 2017.
Born and raised in eastern Kentucky, Mary Elizabeth was orphaned by age 16 and took the responsibility of caring for her brother and four sisters. Mary Elizabeth joined the Pikeville Women’s Club after marrying and went on to live a life of volunteer service as a member of GFWC for over 75 years. She served as president of the Kentucky Federation of Women’s Clubs from 1968-1970 before leading GFWC as International President from 1978-1980. During her administration, Mary Elizabeth promoted family unity and free enterprise, helped to establish the Korean Federation of Women’s Clubs, and partnered with the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership program (HOBY). After her term as GFWC International President, Mary Elizabeth worked in the White House, where she served as President Ronald Reagan’s liaison to national social service and volunteer groups.

The Pikeville Woman's Club recently delivered a huge supply of baby blankets to Judi's Place for Kids. Some of the women had met at an earlier date and used their sewing skills and crafted many of the blankets. All who that participated in any way was greatly appreciated.

The Women of the Pikeville Woman's Club cooked and delivered a Thanksgiving Dinner and served it to the residents of the Veteran's Transitional Center at Shelby Valley. Veterans of the Army, Air Force, United States Marine Corp as well as the Navy were represented at the banquet. It was the clubs opportunity to express our thanks to these veterans for their contribution and service to our country.

For over the 25 years this group of dedicated ladies have volunteered every Tuesday at the Signature Healthcare Center to do the hair of patients at the center. For this dedication the Pikeville Woman's Club recognized these ladies with a special gift of personalized bags and supplies to help with their needs as way of expressing their gratitude for their volunteer spirit. As a parting gift for my term as serving as Pikeville Woman's Club President, the special ladies that I served with on the board presented with this beautiful set of windchimes. My heart is so full of gratitude for the honor it has been to serve with this special bunch of women and to be a part of such a wonderful group such as this club. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

May 19th - May 22nd is the time for the 121st annual GFWC/KY state conference to be held in Lexington, Kentucky at the Griffith Gate Marriott, it's a wonderful time to connect with members from across the state and other regions sharing the same goals and exchanging ideas with one another. Members are encouraged to try and attend this fun filled event.
Also it's Pop Tab delivery time, I will be taking a load of tabs down to the Ronald McDonald House, I have a lot, but more is better, this is such a wonderful cause and such an easy project. If you have tabs or know of someone who does and would like to donate them I will be happy to deliver them, contact me at J.W. Call Funeral Home.

Over the past four years the GFWC/KY Pikeville Woman's Club has collected with the help of the community and wonderful friends over 500 lbs. of pop tabs and delivered them the RMDH in Lexington to help the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Pictured here is one of the many volunteers sitting with Ronald McDonald and displaying one of the books they offer for sale. It is with selfish sadness that I share that our beloved Rose Honaker went to her heavenly home today. I know she is rejoicing with loved ones that are already in Heaven. Please keep her son and daughter-in-law in prayer. We will definitely miss her kindness and sweet demeanor. Rest In Peace, our precious Rose!

Our PWC member, Jennifer Reynolds lost her son Eric Phillips today. Eric was also the nephew of member, Carol Carlton.
