Yesterday, Chris Battle and Angela Dennis had the privilege of sharing time with one of Knoxville’s most beloved servant leaders, Yassin Terou, whose heart for people and commitment to community have made a lasting impact on our city.

Yassin and Pastor Battle have each spent years doing the work of serving Knoxville, building bridges, bringing people together and creating spaces that are rooted in dignity, opportunity and love for community. It makes this moment even more meaningful as the vision for The ONE FIVE Grocery Store continues to come to life in East Knoxville.

Our team at Battlefield Farm & Gardens is incredibly grateful to have Yassin’s support, friendship and expertise through Yassin’s Falafel House and Seeds and Bridges as we move closer to making ONE FIVE a reality. This project is about investing in community, fighting food insecurity, increasing access to fresh and affordable food, creating opportunity and building something that belongs to the people it will serve.

We’re excited about the seeds being planted today and all that can grow from working together. With a shared vision of service, there is so much we can accomplish ❤️🌱

Thank you, Y-12 FCU Gives Foundation Y-12 FCU Gives Foundation 🌱

We’re so grateful to announce that the Alliance has received a grant from the Y-12 FCU Gives Foundation in support of our Youth Garden Education Program!

Y-12 FCU Gives works to reduce childhood hunger across East Tennessee by putting resources directly into the hands of local organizations doing that work on the ground, and we’re honored to be one of them.

Our Youth Garden Education Program gets kids in 25 Knox County Schools outside and into the dirt, teaching them where food actually comes from, how to plant it, tend it, harvest it, and cook it. Along the way, they’re building healthy habits, learning basic nutrition, and connecting with their community’s growing spaces in a hands-on way that sticks. It’s food justice work that starts young.

This grant helps us keep that program going strong for another season of young growers. Thank you to the entire Y-12 FCU Gives team for believing in our kids and our community. 💚

Our Board recently came together to welcome new members.

During the meeting, Pastor Chris Battle shared how an idea for a community garden grew into BattleField Farm & Gardens and The ONE FIVE Grocery Store.

He also reflected on what his partnership with United Way of Greater Knoxville have meant along the way:

"United Way didn't simply fund a project. It invested in people, encouraged collaboration instead of competition, and opened doors."

We’re grateful to walk alongside partners like Pastor Battle who are building solutions and strengthening our community.
