🦜 LET’S ADDRESS A FEW THINGS DIRECTLY 🦜
We want to clear up some questions and concerns that have recently been brought to our attention regarding Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation.
Recently, a fake page pretending to be associated with us, using one of our old logos, contacted another rescue and attempted to purchase birds from them.
To be very clear: Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation does not pay rehoming fees, and I do not purchase animals through the rescue.
Like many people who work with exotic animals, I do maintain a personal collection separate from the rescue. However, any personal purchase is exactly that—personal—and will never be represented as a rescue intake or purchased through Smoky Mtn Exotics.
The rescue that was contacted made a post regarding the situation. I am not going to name them, and that post has since been removed. I spoke with them directly, and despite everything circulating online, we had a very civil and productive conversation.
During that conversation, they explained that several people had contacted them with additional concerns about our organization. We went through those concerns individually, provided clarification, and the issues presented were ultimately determined to either be inaccurate, based on misinformation, or otherwise resolved.
There are also a few things we want to clarify publicly:
🔹 We are not affiliated with Parrot Mountain or Garden of Eden.
Yes, I previously worked there and still visit from time to time, but Smoky Mtn Exotics Rescue & Rehabilitation is a completely separate organization. Birds surrendered to our rescue are not being sent to Parrot Mountain.
🔹 Yes, we use AI-altered or edited images.
We have addressed this several times. In certain circumstances, images are altered for privacy, safety, security, or presentation purposes. That does not mean the animals, adoptions, or work being represented are fake.
🔹 Yes, we operate multiple rescue divisions under one parent organization.
We currently have four rescue operations working under the same umbrella. We also care for different species within some of the same facilities.
Housing multiple species does not mean they are simply placed together without consideration. Different animals have different housing, environmental, sanitation, biosecurity, and safety requirements, and we do our best to structure their care accordingly.
The safety, health, and well-being of every animal in our care remains our top priority.
We understand that people are protective of animals, and we actually encourage people to ask questions. Accountability is important in rescue.
What we ask is that concerns be brought to us directly rather than assumptions, rumors, or information from fake accounts being treated as fact.
